Etymology and history[edit]

There are different versions of the etymology of the name of Shahbuz. At the historical sources, first time the name of "Shahbuz" can be found on the map which shows treasury of copper coins of the state of Eldiguzids and in the historical work of Sharaf ad-Din Ali Yazdi "Zafarnama", historian of Amir Timur.[5] However, the facts show that Shahbuz territory is more ancient settlement. About the meaning of the name, there are different views at the folk etymology and research of the researchers as G. Geybullayev, M. Tahmasib, T. Hajiyev. The more appropriate to the truth is the conclusion of M. Tahmasib. The part "shah" of the word of "Shahbuz" is being processed as meaning of "high". The Scientist coordinates the second component of the word (bus // buz) of "Shahbuz" with the name of the tribe and it is presented as one of the Medes tribes.[6] Turkic ethnic groups "Buzs" immortalized their names at some toponyms including at the name of Shahbuz. So it is likely that the first syllable of the word, the "shah" combined with the tribe name of "bus//buz", means "high places owned by the buzes".[7] Also according to the researchers, the root of the word is associated with the ancient Turkic tribe "Bozuq". Here, the word of "shah" is described in meaning of big (big tribe). The toponyms with origin of "Boz" or "buz" are spread in other parts of the country - the villages of the "Yuxarı Buzqov" and "Aşağı Buzqov" in the Babek District, the settlement of the "Buzovna" in the Baku, the village of "Bozalqanlı" in the Tovuz District, the village of "Bozavand" in Agsu District, the village of Bozakhlar in Barda District[8] and etc...
