Steven Tuckwell is a British Conservative Party politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since the 2023 by-election.

Early life and career before Parliament

Steven Tuckwell[1] was born in Hillingdon Hospital. His family have lived in Hillingdon for three generations. He attended local schools including Bishop Ramsey School in Ruislip.[2][3]

He previously worked as a manager for Royal Mail.[2] He was elected as a ward councillor for South Ruislip on Hillingdon London Borough Council in May 2018.[4][2][5]

Parliamentary career

Tuckwell won the seat of Uxbridge and South Ruislip in the by-election held on 20 July 2023 following the resignation of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who had represented the seat for the Conservatives since 2015.[6]

He is reported to have described the by-election as a "referendum on ULEZ", referring to the proposed expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone supported by Labour Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.[2] The Labour candidate for the by-election, Danny Beales, has since criticised the policy.[7]

Personal life

Tuckwell lives in Hillingdon with his partner, Rachel, and his two children.[2][4]
