Founded in 1976, and operating through the Taft University System (William Howard Taft University), Taft Law School is a distance education, online-based law school based in Santa Ana, California. It offers Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) law degree programs.
The California State Bar Committee of Bar Examiners has registered Taft Law School as a "registered unaccredited correspondence law school."[6] As such, its graduates must pass the First-Year Law Students' Examination (Baby Bar) in order to be eligible to take the California General Bar Examination.[7][8]
Accreditation History
The school was accredited in 2003, and re-accredited in 2013 (with a review scheduled for 2018) by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission.[9]
The school is not accredited by the American Bar Association or the State Bar of California.[6][10]

Taft Law School is an institutional member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and American Council on Education (ACE). Taft Law School is also a member of the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI).
The Taft University System is an institutional member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).

Over the past ten administrations of the California State Bar Examination, 199 graduates have taken the exam and 43 have passed (a pass rate of 21.6%).[11]
In recent years, the school has performed abysmally on the examination. In July 2015, 6 graduates took the California Bar Examination for the first time and none passed. In the administration of the same exam 15 graduates were repeat takers, and only one individual passed.[12] In February 2015, a total of 21 graduates took the exam (15 repeat takers) and only 7 passed.[13] In July 2014, 22 graduates took the exam (11 repeat takers) and 3 passed.[14]
