Be Find
[edit]I think, the redirect from Be Find to Étaín is not so good. Better wold be IMHO a redirct to Bébinn. Perhaps it is to correct, is'nt it? Servus, --Reimmichl-212 (talk) 22:48, 22 October 2010 (UTC) Please excuse my horrible English...
Name meaning
[edit]The alternative spellings of Étaín (according to the reference) is derived from a diminutive form of Old Irish ét, "passion, jealousy". Everything that I've seen on "Aideen" mentions that it means "Little fire" - ie

Granted there is no citation in any of these and they could be screen scraping each other for data, but does anyone have a definitive citation - I know that "tine" in Irish Gaelic is fire. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.174.87.84 (talk) 20:54, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Two totally different names (and, by the way, baby name books/websites are notorious for containing wildly inaccurate etymologies of names; you cannot trust any of them). Áidán (with all its spelling variations) comes from Old Irish áed "fire", but (as you mention), Etain comes from ét, "passion, jealousy". I suspect that some of the alleged alternate spellings listed in this Wiki are incorrect, in that they are not variations of Etain, but other names. Cagwinn (talk) 21:00, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
