Todo[edit]

It needs at least a one sentence description of every storm to be a start.--Nilfanion (talk) 09:21, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on it. Also using this as a placeholder for very helpful refs (esp. with PAGASA)... [1][2][3]Chacor 14:53, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
We've got another problem. One of the others on the TC project told me nearly a year ago that we should not routinely use GMT on these pages, using local time instead. This works out to GMT+9-12 hours, depending upon the location of the tropical cyclone. FYI. Thegreatdr 23:32, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I asked User:Coredesat and User:Nilfanion about this in IRC. Core pointed out that the official RSMC uses UTC more than it does local time, and Nilf thinks there's less confusion using UTC. Furthermore, it's a large area the Pacific typhoon basin covers, not just GMT 9 - GMT 12, but GMT 7 (Thailand) to GMT 12. – Chacor 01:59, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I do actually like the idea of using UTC. The problem is, I've now used local times in the 1981-1984 as well as 2002-2004 Pacific Typhoon Seasons. We do use something close to local time for the Atlantic articles, which is why I never questioned HurricaneHink's initial suggestion on this matter. At the time, he appeared to be the only one doing work on Pacific typhoon seasons. Thegreatdr 02:41, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry 'bout that, I was young and restless then. I suppose UTC times are fine, but I personally think that they shouldn't be overused. They are estimates, after all; it's not like a tropical storm became a typhoon exactly at 12 UTC. Plus, most tropical cyclones generally don't have more than one important event in a day. Like, if a tropical depression became a tropical storm on, say July 1, it would probably not become a typhoon until a different day and a super typhoon a few days later. Even if two events did happen on the same day, one could just say "later that day". Hurricanehink (talk) 03:06, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I just realised that their AOR then was much bigger than it is now. 0 to 30N, 110E to 150E v.s. 5N to 25N, 115E to 135E. – Chacor 16:57, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have the email address for where you got that info? I'm interested in doing the same thing for 1997 PTS. Hurricanehink (talk) 04:22, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I emailed PAGASA's weather chief, Nathaniel Cruz. Contact info is available here. – Chacor 06:41, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
How could this be properly referenced, considering how the information was gathered? It's one of the items holding us back from GAC/GAN/GAR right now. Thegreatdr (talk) 19:05, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matching PAGASA and JTWC names[edit]

Dead link[edit]

During several automated bot runs the following external link was found to be unavailable. Please check if the link is in fact down and fix or remove it in that case!

GA Reassessment[edit]

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:1994 Pacific typhoon season/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.
  • There are plenty of dead links on the page, such as ref 4, 7, and a few individual ATCRs.
  • Blank sections for TDs Tering and Yaning.
  • Info for impact is missing for Vanessa, Verne, Wilda, Zelda, and Axel.

I will probably leave this out for a week or two, perhaps a little longer.—CycloneIsaac (Talk) 02:37, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Link 2 isn't dead. The dead link 7 has been fixed. A few TCRs is too unspecific...cite the refs which are dead so they can be fixed. If the problems are bad enough for a reassessment, you need to be specific so they can be fixed. This is basically a GA review you've initiated; please treat it as such; vagueness is not an option. If you know of information on Tering and Yaning, show us where it lies, or be bold. Axel, Wilda, Verne, and Vanessa have some impact already -- Axel has more than sufficient content for a season article. Do you know of a source for more impact information for these storms? Zelda doesn't seem to have impacted anywhere. More details, please. Thegreatdr (talk) 18:31, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Weve now got the Beven reports and MWL's, which i will use to improve the article.Jason Rees (talk) 23:20, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Those could help. =) I didn't initially use those in the preparation...chances are that MWL won't shed any new light on the storm history since the JTWC reports should read very similarly. Jack's reports might have more details. Thegreatdr (talk) 23:40, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The ATCR does have info for storms with impact, and maybe it's just me who's getting some of the dead links. I'm going to close the GAR, because there's not much to fix, or could be fixed.—CycloneIsaac (Talk) 03:31, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Information for Tering was found, albeit little. Satellite pictures for Tering and Yaning have also been added. Thegreatdr (talk) 19:53, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thoughts[edit]

A search needs to be conducted for Wake Island impact from Li. I dont expect there to be much since the CPHC notes that "some showers but little in the way of winds" were recorded.Jason Rees (talk) 21:32, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Orchid ARTICLE[edit]

Guys, Hello, Is it enough to make an Article for Category-4-super typhoon Orchid? It hit Japan as a typhoon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.144.40.17 (talk) 04:16, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
