What is the deal with the Ocean Wind warnings from Fiji?

[edit]

Fiji is now issuing Ocean Wind warnings for Tropical Depression 03 in the south Pacific Ocean. These are being redistributed by Brisbane as Ocean Warnings.

Does this in any way affect the Australian Article, or is it strictly for Fiji? Metamorphazone (talk) 02:44, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leave them on the SPAC article for now as BOM has not put it on their TC front Page here Jason Rees (talk) 14:22, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brisbane has always done this. TCWC Wellington re-issues(copy) Fiji Advisories as well. -- グリフオーザー (talk) 04:00, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox categories

[edit]

While reverting back to the local scale, which I think makes sense, I noticed the infoboxes auto-link to the Saffir scale, not the local scales page. Perhaps it needs to be changed, not the number shown? Iorek (talk) 01:45, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a known problem and we're trying to figure out a solution; until then, edit warring over the infoboxes isn't going to do much good. At some point in the near future, a new version of {{Infobox hurricane small}} will be written to solve the issue of local basin categorization. --Coredesat 01:55, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. In the meantime, though, it just seems odd to have the infobox for Guba, say, have Cat 1 at the top while the body text says it was a category three.Iorek (talk) 03:26, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Near future = next 48 hours. The rollout will take a little while to reach here but it will happen soon.--Nilfanion (talk) 22:37, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds encouraging. but the only thing i will say is how comes it will take a while to get to the current season? Jason Rees (talk) 01:48, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other Storms

[edit]

Is this section really needed as TCWC Brisbane did issue warnings on TC 20P. [Source - http://listserv.uiuc.edu/wa.cgi?A2=ind0802e&L=wx-tropl&T=0&P=309] Jason Rees (talk) 21:34, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed your link - グリフオーザー (talk) 04:47, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TCWC Jakarta

[edit]

TCWC Jakarta are now Active at long last - they are currently issuing warnings on PANCHO in indonesian. They are located here [1]. Jason Rees (talk) 03:11, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TCWC JAKARTA Warnings

[edit]

where are we meant to be getting them from? 1) from the main website link and webcite them 2) from the archives 3) Other

Please let me know which one as im not sure Jason Rees (talk) 20:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Webcite the High Sea Warnings or if possible the Extreme Weather Warnings (if released for cyclone expected to impact land weather) - グリフオーザー (talk) 01:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclone Pancho

[edit]

Hey, Cyclone Pancho is on the pt.wikipedia main page! -189.30.142.111 (talk) 16:14, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Names in the infobox

[edit]

I don't think this has ever been discussed, but I would like some input, as I am currently working on a season article. It appears the current format for the name in the Infobox for storms that stay within the basin is the official name (from the TCWC in the basin), with the JTWC name in parenthesis in the next line. However, I question how we are handling the storms that cross from/into another basin. Given that this article is about the Australia region, my personal inclination is that we should have only the Australian name in the infobox and section title (but still JTWC in the next line). There is some slight precedence, as in the 1988 Atlantic hurricane season article, the section on Hurricane Joan only lists Joan in the section title and infobox, despite it being the same cyclone as Miriam. More importantly, perhaps, I don't think a tropical low in this basin should be called what the other warning center called it (for example, TL in Australia going to MFR, and being called Tropical Depression 04). Any thoughts? ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:40, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Thoughts are that we should use the name that was assigned by the relevant TCWC and if a low becomes a Storm in MFR region then we should mention the name in the storm summuary and we put it in the infobox but do wat Typhoon 2000 do when a Depression is going to be moving in to PAGASAs AOR and call it Pre Whatever (ie Pre Tropical Cyclone John) Jason Rees (talk) 22:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TC Lee

[edit]

In Boms summuary of the last two seasons prepared for the WMO meeting of RAV . Under point 1.11 BOM are saying that unnamed storm 01S has been named as LEE. <http://www.wmo.ch/pages/prog/www/tcp/Meetings/RA%20V%20TCC-12/documents/Doc_05-5.doc here>. Is there a way of checking this as if its true it moves all the TCWC Perth names down by one ??? Jason Rees (talk) 19:09, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Map and Unnamed Cyclone

[edit]

Hey everyone, Just wondering if we’re going to get a season summary map in the main infobox? Also with the unnamed Tropical Cyclone, can’t we just call it ‘Tropical Cyclone 01S’? Just a few things, thats all.
