[edit]Are there any sources actually calling this a coup? It sounds like a coup, but right now it's not even exactly clear what the soldiers want. Everyking (talk) 21:59, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Everyking: I'll admit, I was a bit hasty yesterday, but now all the major news sources dub it a coup, given the overthrow of the government and the establishment of a new military regime. So we should be fine. Stamboliyski (talk) 13:48, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
- Well, yes, no doubt about it now. Everyking (talk) 13:55, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
- Everyking, now though it's a failed coup per: "A Week After Coup, Burkina Faso's Interim President Back In Power". National Public Radio. 2015-09-23. Retrieved 2015-09-23. 220 of Borg 20:57, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

- Stamboliyski then again the coup 'succeeded' as the RSP held the President etc, but they gave up after a week. And, they controlled the capital Ouagadougou, "the administrative, communications, cultural and economic centre of the nation.", but, with only about 10% of the population.
- And as the RSP has now been disbanded, I presume the "soldiers want" jobs! I hope that doesn't lead to future trouble. 220 of Borg 03:50, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

2015 Burkinabe coup d'état → 2015 Burkinabe coup d'état attempt – The coup clearly failed (and spectacularly as the unit is being disbanded and the Diendre arrested). Since even the infobox says it failed, we should thus move it. Lihaas (talk) 12:30, 3 October 2015 (UTC) Lihaas (talk) 12:30, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
- Well, technically the coup succeeded. A junta was established, the government apprehended, international media described it as a full coup... It's just that the junta was defeated about a week later. From my understanding, "coup d'état attempt" is usually used for coups that fail during the attempt, not after its completion. Stamboliyski (talk) 13:34, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with Stamboliyski. It's generally been characterized as a coup, not a coup attempt. In a mere attempt, normally you'd expect that the government was never ousted, but the government in Burkina Faso was indeed removed from power, though only briefly. Coup attempt
[edit]I see there was a vote on this, but I think this very easily qualifies as a coup attempt. It was drawn out, yes, but it ultimately failed in a reasonably brief amount of time.
- We already had this discussion, following the coup's end. Stamboliyski (talk) 21:56, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
