See also[edit]

I reverted the deletion of the See also section with CTF 2187. "See also" articles don't have to be mentioned in the game. MOS:SEEALSO states: "One purpose of 'See also' links is to enable readers to explore tangentially related topics; however, articles linked should be related to the topic of the article or be in the same defining category."

Seems like readers for a game about battling robots might be interested in other games with battling robots. But if other editors feel that it damages the article, delete away. Airborne84 (talk) 14:23, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Airborne84: First off, nice work on the CTF 2187 article. But... for the see also links, help me out here. Is this the only connection whatsoever? That both feature robots? Because there are over 300 articles in Category:Video games about mecha. Granted, the other ones in the SRW series are already in the template, so we can exclude those, but that's still a lot of potential close links. And that's just video games. This is a link to a PBM published a decade earlier. Now, maybe there's other reasons for a link - if there was shared staff or the SRW team cited it as an inspiration or something - but if it's truly just "both involve robots", that seems much too weak a connection to me. I'm happy to raise the issue to a WP:3O if that'd help if it's truly just "both have robots" and you still think it's a worthwhile See also link, both here and on the other SRW articles. Thanks for the note and the article compliment @SnowFire:. I'm not overly concerned about the link being here. Occasionally, I write play-by-mail articles and it turns out (when a tag appears) that no articles link to it. So, sometimes I rummage around and find related articles to link. As I recall, for this one, I didn't link various articles that came up as possibilities with just robots. I tried to only link ones with battling robots, and especially where players acted as pilots for them. You are welcome to ask a third opinion, although if you would prefer to delete, I won't object either. Thanks for the interest. Airborne84 (talk) 02:39, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. It happens... I created an article recently on a quite obscure subject (Arabic Apocalypse of Peter), and there just weren't that many reasonable internal wikilinks to add. Just had to accept it wouldn't be heavily linked from other articles. I will say that if it makes sense anywhere, other stuff on List of play-by-mail games is probably a closer connection that might make for a better see also link.
