Dispute tags

[edit]

Firstly, it appears the subject does not meet notability guidelines, and is therefore a possible AfD nomination. But the other problems are that it relies only upon a source from the US congress itself, it doesn't provide all major viewpoints (e.g. other POV that Baltics were not occupied), it is not therefore NPOV. These issues need to be fixed before any of the tags should be removed from the article itself. --Russavia Let's dialogue 17:15, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sources have been added to the article, and it has been through an AfD. The AfD has been closed as No consensus, which defaults to a keep. Are the tags still appropriate? SilkTork ✔Tea time 14:09, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article has been significantly improved including a move and change in scope since the addition of the tags[1]. The original rationale given above is no longer applicable. --Nug (talk) 23:35, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
After reading carefully through the article and checking sources I don't detect any POV and have removed the POV tag. I am uncertain about the notability issue. While the events as described did happen, I question if the event is significant enough for a standalone article, and the material might be better placed in the Latvia article. SilkTork ✔Tea time 20:17, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your updates. This event is notable per WP:EFFECT and WP:GEOSCOPE, as it was a catalyst for a number of things, such as the publication of an academic retrospective in Britain, concerts in Russia, celebrations across Latvia and a resolution by the US Senate of which the then Senator Obama was a co-sponsor. WP:EFFECT cites the example of the murder of Adam Walsh being notable as it ultimately led to the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act, however one has to be mindful of WP:BIAS and recognise that most Europeans would never have heard of Adam Walsh. --Nug (talk) 11:08, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notability tag removed. SilkTork ✔Tea time 14:39, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
