African tune
[edit]I really think the statement that there is a link between the Aberystwyth hymn tune and Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika needs some verfication by someone who knows more about music than I do. But my untrained ear (and even those of doctor in music as well as a South African composer whom I have asked) could hear no comparison whatsoever between: Hymn Aberystwyth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkWsY9PRRxU and Nkosi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKQ5zF6WA9o Mieliestronk (talk) 18:02, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
- I agree that the two linked videos do not sound like the same tune. I know that the Nkosi tune linked is correct, and assume that the Aberystwyth tune linked is original, but do not know this for sure. A reference to the official sheet music might resolve this. · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 06:43, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- I googled the sheet music for both, Aberystwyth here, and Nkosi here, and while I cannot read music, I can recognise similarities in patterns when they exist, and I would not consider these to follow very similar patterns. Gerda Arendt, I think you are the person most likely to be able to help here. What is your opinion? · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 18:59, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Same, don't see "the same". At least there's some similar pattern in the 2 found by google, but none comparing the music shon in our article on the African. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:03, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda, I have found what I consider a reliable reference and with any luck the information in it is accurate. It is freely available for anyone to check whether my edit is an accurate representation of the reference and sufficiently describes the situation. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 09:16, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
