Fascinating but pointless?[edit]

"is a fascinating but pointless musical documentary"? Whoa. I'll try to de-POV it, if possible, though I just came to c/e. Tamarkot 02:28, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article still has a bad POV flavor to it, but seems to actually have a couple of sources cited. I'd strongly recommend anyone familiar with the subject material try to give this a cleanup (and perhaps rewrite). Remember: this should read like an encyclopedia entry -- not a movie review from a film critic or a personal opinion from a 'blog entry. 66.17.118.207 13:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I can remember watching this on TV in the early 1980s - some what garblingly my memory had it as 'World War II and all that' but the list of songs used matches. I hadn't realised the songs were covered. I wonder though if this was a later edition as the last song which accompanied footage of the atomic bombings sounded as if sung by Blondie. Each to their own but I thought the mix of newsreel, movie clip and song made for an interesting presentation.Cloptonson (talk) 07:53, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stub to Start class[edit]

To bring this article to start class, a cast section and infobox should be added, and then the stub can be switched to start. --Nehrams2020 04:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. HairyWombat 23:03, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
How can a documentary style film, using period footage, have a cast? Gwladys24 (talk) 14:55, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. However, the section adds useful information so should be retained. What is needed is an alternative to "Cast". Can't think of one off-hand; "featuring", "presenting", and "starring" don't really work as sub-headings. 74.205.216.180 (talk) 16:50, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, the information could be retained as part of a larger section that gives a better explanation of the nature of the film. Some more description would provide context for the current list & might allow for that list to be broken up & the details included more appropriately. POV[edit]

"The Beatles' significance was pushed to the breaking point"? What the hell does that mean? Jack Meihoffer 00:22, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as stub, and the rating on other projects was brought up to Stub class. BetacommandBot 19:00, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As the article no longer uses any Stub template, I have promoted it to Start class. (It was already Start class on WikiProject The Beatles, and now it is Start class on all three.) HairyWombat 05:26, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why The Beatles?[edit]

One thing the article doesn't touch is the decision to use songs by The Beatles in a documentary about the Second World War. I can understand the concept behind Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?, but why The Beatles, for heaven's sake? Irony? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 17:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Money. The point of the film was not the film, but the soundtrack album. An album of Beatles' covers would make more money. (I have the album; it is excellent.) HairyWombat 04:10, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack - Personnel[edit]

The Soundtrack Personnel section doesn't really make much sense. There are obviously many artists on the soundtrack who are not listed under personnel. Does that then mean that the personnel section just features artists who were contracted to work on the whole album, house band style, & other artists added their contributions on top? Unfortunately there's no explanation given. If all that's available is information regarding who performed on each song, perhaps that's best listed on a song by song basis. Gwladys24 (talk) 15:03, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was around when the album was released, and remember radio interviews with some of the artists. In the interviews, they explained how they were each sent a backing track to which they added vocals. The backing tracks are also uniform, sounding like they were produced by the same group of people. So, while the personnel section needs to be improved, it does make sense to have one. 74.205.216.180 (talk) 16:01, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That makes some sense. For example, Getting Better is credited to Status Quo but only features Francis Rossi on vocals, as far as I know. However it's presented, it's not quite right at the moment.Gwladys24 (talk) 14:25, 13 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Film Director?[edit]

How come the article in itself states that Tony Palmer directed this film, but states in the infobox, that Susan Winslow is the director?

This is pretty confusing. Who really directed this film? Tony Palmer or Susan Winslow? Even the film's IMDB page states that Susan Winslow directed this film. The IMDB's trivia page even states this:

"The film's director Susan Winslow was hired as she had been a researcher on the movie Brother, Can You Spare A Dime? (1975) which integrated Warner Brothers film footage and 1930s newsreels with gramophone songs of that era. Her original role was as a researcher and to select footage but her contribution became so important she was named the film's director."

Any answers are really appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.Frschoonover (talk) 20:58, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should be cross-referenced with the Wikipedia page for the movie All This And Heaven Too[edit]

The article should be cross-referenced with the Wikipedia page for the Hollywood movie All This And Heaven Too - which the title surely alluded to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.99.210.174 (talk) 15:55, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
