Meaning?
[edit]What on earth is this supposed to mean: In January 1965 Howard joined the Sunday Times as its Whitehall correspondent, which turned out to be an unfortunate career move, as it was a post in advance of accepted practices at the time.? If it was an unfortunate career move (citation?) because it caused a conflict with an accepted practice, then that practice must at least be described. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JO 24 (talk • contribs) 06:27, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK, tried to clean up the clumsiness. Philip Cross (talk) 18:40, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps it should say something like, 'Howard joined The Sunday Times as its Whitehall correspondent, a new kind of post, and one which he subsequently saw was in advance of accepted newspaper practice'.--JO 24 (talk) 23:53, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Cause of death?
[edit]Someone has cited the cause of death as being complications from surgery on a ruptured aneurysm but there appears to be no substance to this in the reference cited, which refers merely to the "short illness" formula which is frequently used by UK media. 'Edited the Crossman Diaries'
[edit]There has been confusion over the facts here. Howard is often cited as 'editor' of "The Crossman Diaries", a selection of entries from the previously published "The Diaries of a Cabinet Minister", a book by Richard Crossman (1907-1974). However, neither of these texts has a Wikipedia article, which means the previous version of the Anthony Howard page had led people to believe, falsely, that Howard had been the editor of the original text (which was edited by Janet Morgan). The term 'editor' is also suspect, as the work done by Howard was far less than that done by Morgan, and does not deserve to be described by the same word. External links
[edit]I notice that there are a number of external links on this page, e.g.
* Childe Harold: New Statesman article from 1964 on the newly elected government of Harold Wilson (December 6, 1999 reprint). * column archives * Obituary of Anthony Howard, The Daily Telegraph, 20 December, 2010
Please consider adding this link to an in depth video of Anthony Howard telling his life story. The video is freely available on the Web of Stories website (http://webofstories.com):

It appears that two of the three external links are now dead (either that, or there's something wrong with my computer). The link for "Cilde Harold" goes to a "metasearch engine" and the one for Howard's column archives goes to The Times (or rather to its paywall). Could someone please try to restore or replace these links? Thankyou. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.110.216.193 (talk) 09:22, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Done. Unfortunately journalisted only has a small fraction of Howard's articles, right at the end of his career, but the NS site has a list going back to 1999 which I am about to link to. Philip Cross (talk) 18:15, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
