Museum or Research Station
[edit]Having read the article, I'm not certain if this is a museum or an active research station. Is there any active agricultural research taking place at 'Avondale Agricultural Research Station' today? Cheers! Wassupwestcoast 23:00, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Its both Gnangarra 00:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
GA review (31/oct)
[edit]- DoneNeed to fix cites 8 and 9.
Further reading is formatted inconsistently
- DoneReferences need to be filled out fully.
- Various uncited info.
- Private holdings in 19th century? Status of the land?
- Idle land from 1910 to WWI?
- Done*What are the buildings? How many are there? When were they built
- Government production farm?
- What is current size?
- Done*Need to describe research evolution. Announcements and so forth.
- Dakins’ first name
- More info is generally needed. There appears to be a book on the station, and it should provide a lot of detail. ATm the article is only 4.6k in text. At the moment the coverage is a bit sparse and it is rather difficult to understand the historical evolution of the historic site. I can help with copyediting when the writeup is ready. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 00:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review, I'll work on these no point keeping it on hold I wont be able to get access to the book again until next week. I'll drop you note when I've addressed these. Gnangarra 15:24, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
PS: Try and get the date it was first used as Ag station into lead. I couldn't figure it out myself from the text...cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 20:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- after some expansion its looking better more detail new images etc. Gnangarra 12:43, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Harvest Festival
[edit]I happened to be driving past it a couple of days ago and saw a sign in the driveway saying their Harvest Festival is on either this weekend or next. I'm not planning on going out there again but if anyone is it may be an opportunity for a closer look. —Moondyne 03:03, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- this weekend(sunday), they expect 3000 people out there its also the only day they charge entry fees. Gnangarra 14:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
GA nomination on hold
[edit]A few notes before it can pass;
- Done"is one of thirteen research farms/stations" - I think you should just use on word here - the "/" looks odd
- DoneRef 1 needs full formatting - accessdate, publisher, whatever etc...in fact, most of the internet sources need this
- Done"commencing research it first research 1926" - um...what's this saying?
- DoneRemember to wikilink dates! I've gone through and done most of them, I think -- I delinked a couple of unnecesary likks
- Done"Until deLisle's arrival Avondale was a pastoral property over the next ten years sections of the estate were sold off to fund the development of Avondale." - some commas and stuff are needed here, it doesn't read to well comma added
- DoneRef 3 needs an access date
- Done"equivalent to approximately A$5,500,000 in 2006." - Is there a 2007 equivalent? the calculator is on ATO web site and uses yearly inflations figures
- Done"Even though the Butcher brothers' farming operations continued until January 1911 the government start preparation for subdivision" - what exactly did the govt. do, and when?
- In April 1910 John Hall was sent to Avondale to locate all improvements and draw subdivision lines following existing fencing where possible. 1910-1924 section goes into detail on golf course dispute.
- Done"received a CBE from the Queen.[7]" - the CBE article says who you get them from, you don't really need to say
- Done"In 1937 a letter to the Perth Zoo details the disposal of horses that were no longer useful;[2]" - The ref should probably go at the end of the quoted text (at the end of the letter)
- DoneSome of the external links could probably be used as refs instead... most they already are though more specific links to documents
And that's it - leave a note on my talk page when you're done or if you have questions. Cheers, — Dihydrogen Monoxide (Review) 07:11, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Thomas Watson et al.
[edit]- I doubt the one in the article refers to any of these...a new stub required? Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:10, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Carey also purchased 3,000 acres (12 km2) to west of location 14 he also received an additional grant of land in 1849. - not sure how this should go...Casliber (talk · contribs) 12:15, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- An adjective or two describing who Carey is at first mention'd be good for context too.
- There are a few commas lacking here and there. I have stuck some in and mixed the prose up a little.

copied from assessment page Gnangarra 05:36, 21 September 2006 (UTC) ===Avondale Agricultural Research Station=== One of the first articles I created from scratch, single reference source was used. I'm considering expanding further and would like some opinions. Rated it as low importance, and its possibly a B class but I'll leave that to consensus. Gnangarra 02:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
