Notes about the Notes[edit]

I'm not sure the note about the Lou Reed quote is needed; if not, feel free to delete it. I just added that because the quote appears on the Boo-Hooray website with no explanation.

Not sure the citation at the end of the lead sentence is needed, but I'm including it just to be on the safe side, because of that word "landmark," which is used on the Boo-Hooray website. It just struck me as a strong word that needed to be supported (and it is supported, by the other sources as well).

In a few places I've cited more than one reference, which looks kind of ugly and makes the text less readable, but I felt like those statements needed strong backup. Partly because they involve people like Ginsberg and Dylan who are more famous than Rubin, and partly because Rubin was so young, and a girl, and I think there's a tendency to dismiss her as a groupie -- despite the evidence that people like Warhol and Mekas, who are generally taken seriously, took her seriously -- so I feel a certain pressure to include as many references as possible to prove that she was notable.

At the end of the sentence about Rubin and Mekas clashing with censors, I have two references because the two authors tell the story differently, and include different details, all of which are interesting. That wasn't the only time they clashed with censors, of course; they had all kinds of problems with the authorities trying to confiscate their stuff, but I didn't go into detail about that because it didn't pertain to Christmas On Earth and I figured it would be more relevant in an article about Mekas or the Cooperative.

Also, I realize references to emails are frowned on, but I felt I had to reference them in a couple of cases. I received some comments on the draft, via email, from people with first-hand knowledge of Rubin, and I think their comments should be considered at least as reliable as anyone else's. For the most part, I'm using their comments to support omissions rather than assertions. For example, I originally wrote that Naomi Levine was one of the performers, because I'd read that in an article, but Gerard Malanga questioned the accuracy of that, and he was there, after all, so I took Levine's name out just to be on the safe side.

Then there's the age question. All the written sources claim that Rubin was 17 or 18 when she made Christmas on Earth. Based on Rosebud Pettet's comments, however, I'm being cautious and saying that Rubin was 18 when she started filming.

Anyway, I'm just explaining my own actions. If others want to make changes, that's up to them. -Rosekelleher (talk) 13:33, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Dylan Connection[edit]

Rubin was a friend of Bob Dylan's; she reportedly helped nurse him back to health after his motorcycle accident, and she appears on the back cover of his album, Bringing It All Back Home. Others may think that's important enough to mention in the article. I left it out because she was important in her own right, not just as a friend of a famous man. IMO it would be more appropriate to mention it in the article about the album, in the description of the cover art, with a link to the Rubin article. I think it's very interesting, and should go in. Just a sentence would do. Rothorpe (talk) 00:41, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, if you think so. Rosekelleher (talk) 03:37, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
