Fox Soccer's Budget for the series

[edit]

I've read in various soccer/football message boards that Being: Liverpool took a huge chunk out of Fox Soccer's budget. While the series was well-received by critics, as an investment it did not provide the return that was anticipated. If someone could substantiate (or disprove) that with reliable sources, I think it would add to the article. It becomes potentially significant because Fox (who had won the rights to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups prior to Being: Liverpool), then went on to lose its rights to the BPL to NBC after the documentary aired. There's a lot of chat that Being: Liverpool was a poor investment for Fox and it restricted the amount that they could bid to retain the BPL. Beginning in the 2013/14 season, Fox (who has reigned as the top US soccer network for years and will be broadcasting two World Cups) will only have the rights to one major European League - Serie A.
