Merge Proposal

[edit]

I'd support the merge as long as the article on the museum stayed with it's current name as the building is listed on NRHP. Toddst1 (talk) 17:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The current name for the museum article is "Belair Stable Museum (Bowie, Maryland)". Actually i would want to drop the "(Bowie, Maryland)" part of that as the first part uniquely identifies the place already. The NRHP name for the place is "Belair Stables". I think i'd prefer for the merged article name to be that, as it is a historical name and is descriptive of the history and accomodates the museum too. The intro sentence could includes bolded mention of being also known as, or currently known as, Belair Stable Museum. I think "Belair Stable Museum" and "Belair Stable Museum (Bowie, Maryland)" should be redirects to the new name "Belair Stables". Toddst1, thanks for commenting and raising the name issue. Perhaps your comment was addressed towards heading off use of "Belair Stud", which seems nondescriptive to me. Would "Belair Stables" be okay? doncram (talk) 23:07, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Fully support. I just don't want to lose the building name as it's recognized by NRHP. I'm not sure I understand why Pubdog (talk · contribs) moved it to a title different than what is listed on NRHP 3 days ago. Toddst1 (talk) 15:21, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I support the merge and to drop the Bowie, Maryland. I've been admonished already about the addition of local place name modifier to distinguish names and will cease doing it. I still have lingering concerns that historic or other locally important sites not on the NRHP WORLDWIDE can share a name and having the local geography indicated is very useful. I don't think that "Belair Stables" is that unique of a name. It's also very useful when you are using categories. Please note however that the Belair Stud is the name of the farm and its property (the horse), whereas the Belair Stables are the physical buildings that house those entities. Therefore, this distinction would have to be made clear in the merged entry, esp in re: those in the horseracing community who know the Belair Stud quite well. --Pubdog (talk) 16:19, 31 October 2008 (UTC)--Pubdog (talk) 16:13, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks dog, I think we're all on the same page here. (no pun intended) Toddst1 (talk) 19:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do not merge. This article is about the stud in racing and breeding only. Handicapper (talk) 20:54, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
