Date of death

[edit]

Sr Benedicta Ward died at midday in 22 May 2022 at Fairacres Convent in Oxford. The web pages of Harris Manchester college and St Steven’s House in Oxford. offer confirmation. We will not be publishing an obituary for some time and would appreciate if you could update her Wikipedia details accordingly. 2A00:23C7:5986:6401:9844:FB91:3DA7:6D94 (talk) 07:59, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Link the website here. Of course it can't be done without a link. DiamondRemley39 (talk) 09:44, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You mean this? The details you shared are not reflected here, so the date and location of death can't be added based on your inside information, no. I think it can be updated to include only the 2022 year and I will see about adding that later.
The other website had a Facebook post; that won't work because it is against policy at WP:FACEBOOK to use as a source in this case... And the details are not there anyway. Before a date and place can be added, there must be an obituary or a more complete notice of death. It doesn't have to be the greatest tribute to her, but it does have to reflect the details that go into the update.
Things you could try:
  1. Ask someone with Harris Manchester College to update their page with the date and location
  2. Contact a local newspaper that would write her obituary sooner than later.
  3. If a funeral home handled her remains, see if they will post an obituary on their website.
  4. Contact Library of Congress or a similar body and see if her name authority file can be updated to include the details of her death.
  5. Wait it out. There was a rush to get her declared dead on this website the day after her death. While it is well-intentioned, it isn't at all necessary, and the unsourced edits were disruptive. Many deaths in Wikipedia are not updated for some time for insufficient sourcing. Such an edit has to be right and it is better if it is as complete as possible. • Please provide a reliable source for the date of her death. Not personal knowledge. All content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking." --Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:18, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • There is a tweet from St Stephen's House, Oxford [1] implying a date of 23 May. We have used such material in the past, but I agree it is not ideal. Espresso Addict (talk) 21:02, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for sharing. I don't see why to add it. The date of death is already in the article. We'd want to watch the article and replace the tweet when the powers that be write the obituary they say they'll write. Better to do it right the first time. After the last editor tried to make up a source shortly after the page protection ended, I've now got some concerns about Ward's following and delayed gratification, academic honesty (at a religious college of Oxford University?! It's almost funny!), etc.
The onus is on that college at Oxford University to--I'm assuming it's her employer that wants it done, anyway--to get it written.
