Speedy Deletion Request

[edit]

I do not understand how this article would meet the criteria for a speedy deletion, as outlined here. Specifically, the criteria being referenced here is Item A7 in the criteria article, which references the indication of importance. Wikipedia:Notability (people) specifies the criteria for a real person to be deemed important or significant. It states that a person can be deemed notable by meeting any one of the criteria. By my reading of those guidelines, Bob Lutz meets not just one, but two criteria. Specifically:

  • Under the Basic Criteria category, it is stated that "[a] person is presumed to be notable if he or she has been the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject." Bob Lutz and his career have received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. In the references section of the article, I listed two of those, The Ironton Tribune and the Hamilton Journal-News, both legitimate newspapers. I would be happy to cite coverage in other newspapers and on television and radio sources as well, if anyone is interested.
  • Under the Additional Criteria category, it is stated that "[a] person is generally notable if they meet any of the following standards." Specifically, standard 1 under "Any biography" states "[t]he person has received a notable award or honor, or has been often nominated for one." Lutz has been inducted into the National High School Federation Hall of Fame, and has received and been nominated for numerous other awards and honors. In addition, while not strictly an award, Lutz is currently tied as the winningest coach in Ohio football history -- not just high school, but all Ohio football -- and is likely to break the record and become the single winningest coach within the next 7 days. This clearly distinguishes him from an average high school football coach and makes him notable.

I believe these facts show that Lutz is clearly a notable person under the Wikipedia guidelines and that the article should not be deleted. Ithizar (talk) 19:09, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
