Mulgrew's problem with Braga?[edit]

During his time on Voyager, he was criticized for ‘dumbing’ down the show down, and focusing more on sex and action than on solid stories. The secondary characters often took a back seat to 7 of 9, a character he created. The character of Janeway suffered horribly under his control, and even Kate Mulgrew feels that Janeway was not taken very seriously by Braga.
Enterprise failed to ignite interest amongst fans. Once again, they complained Braga had focused more on sex and action.

I just pulled the above two paragraphs. I was trying to find some sources to back up these additions by User:209.213.251.188. However I'm having problems, particularly with Mulgrew's problems with Braga. Especially when I keep finding quotes like these...

Brannon Braga's a very, very smart guy. He is a very talented guy, and he understood the underbelly of Janeway. And I've always said this: If you don't go this way out you cannot…this is too - they're too smart. Nobody wants to see the superficial aspects of a character. They want to see the guts. Brannon knows that. -- March 2002 [1]
...I think that Brannon wrote a beautiful script. I will always say that Braga is a hell of a writer — very edgy, very dark. He knows how to go down there. And I loved playing it. -- January 2001 [2]
I'm very excited about Brannon Braga taking over, I'm having a great time... The scripts I think are terrific this season; Brannon is incredibly smart, and dark and creative and funny in a way that I love, ... He knows Janeway's voice and Mulgrew's voice, and has married them very nicely. ... Janeway in seasons one, two, and three was a little goody-two-shoes for my taste, not really who Mulgrew is as Janeway. Brannon has watched me closely as an actress in the last four years, so he knows where I can go, and what my strengths are. What Brannon has done is to give me a lot of rein and still stay in charge of the stories. -- 1998 [3]

Doesn't sound to me like someone who feels that her character isn't being taken seriously. AlistairMcMillan 05:50, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I think it is true. I found this at Mulgrew Not a Fan of Janeway/Seven Subtext
On the topic of Janeway and Seven, Mulgrew insisted that she and Ryan had no need to emphasise chemistry between the characters as the scripts provided plenty of material. She said that she wished the original cast had been kept as it was, with no changes, which many fans interpreted as a slap at Ryan as well as a lament over the firing of Jennifer Lien (Kes).

Neither of these is a quote from Mulgrew. And neither of these prove whether or not Mulgrew felt her character was being taken seriously. AlistairMcMillan 11:33, July 13, 2005 (UTC)

That was from original from an interview with Mulgrew. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Furious Stormrage (talk • contribs) .

Cyberstalking incident[edit]

it was either braga or ryan that was being stalked online by some geek. any info on that would be appreciated -Lordraydens 07:47, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Little late here, but it was Jeri Ryan who was stalked -- and in person, not online. The guy responsible was a well-known troll on Usenet. Now he's a cautionary tale. ~ CZeke 00:57, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life[edit]

In the introduction it is stated that Braga is an atheist, which seems out of place as the only comment on his personal life. I would think that either further information should be incorporated, or the sentence might be better removed. Unusual Cheese 21:15, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In this case it's okay. He's open about the fact and gives lectures on the subject of atheism. Haukur 10:20, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

I have added a quality assessment rating and importance rating to this article. Feel free to change them as the article improves! Also, feel free to add more issues to the list below, and strike them out (strike) when they're completed. — OranL (talk) 22:28, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable issues[edit]

  • The sections are not very conducive for anyone trying to find information quickly. They should be reorganized so that all the statements are within the proper sections. Most notably, one of the passages in the Star Trek: Voyager section doesn't really have much to do with the Voyager show:
  • The referenced website stating he is an atheist has become a broken link.

Atheism Relevance[edit]

How is Braga's religious belief relevant? To make it relevant, there should be some discussion of how it has affected his work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.238.140.206 (talk) 03:07, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought this was an encyclopedia. This isn't a wiki specific to film work, it's an encyclopedia. His personal life has a section (this is a common section on wiki pages pertaining to a person) and religious beliefs are part of his personal life. many celeberty's wiki pages comment on their beliefs. As long as you have a source, I don't see a problem with it. ThetaOrion (talk) 03:00, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
