[edit]Merge From the article created under a different (and less common) spelling. Mereda 10:22, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
The article now has conflicting birth years: 505 (from article lead and births cat) vs. 499 (in the merged section after the trig identities). This should be sorted out if possible, or if the year of birth is uncertain that should be noted. 24.241.226.16 00:33, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
He was not born in 505, this is a date mentioned in his astronomical treatise Panca-Siddhantika, see for example the Article on him by K. V. Sarma in Helaine Selin (Herausgeber) Encyclopedia of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine in non-western Cultures, Kluwer 1997. The date of birth and death are unknown (Sarma).--Claude J (talk) 07:12, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

removal of ethnonationalist gibberish
[edit]I've removed ethnonationalist nonsense about it being "controversial" that a 6th-century AD Indian astronomer who wrote critical commentaries on Greek and Roman works of astronomy, which he explicitly stated to be Greek and Roman works of astronomy, was influenced by Greek and Roman astronomy. There is nothing remotely controversial about this; we do not accept Indian government sources on charged issues like this (especially not sources that include no detail whatsoever regarding what they allegedly state. See Pingree for details; if you don't know who Pingree is, you are by definition incompetent to comment. Hölderlin2019 (talk) 23:46, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
Image
[edit]AryaGyaan, I am also troubled by the image you added in this version, because there is no information available about where it comes from. Who made this statue, and on what basis? -- Kautilya3 (talk) 17:06, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Improper citations
[edit]Information with Citations 21,22 seems to be misguiding and should be reconsidered by moderators.these citations are books with only personal views and can't be taken as scientific or historical evidences as it is all about satyuga, dwapar Yuga etc which is not historically approved.vedang jyotish /mathematics can't be considered historical from Vedas as Sanskrit was only spoken language before Maurya empire reign (300 BC), so how any sciences like mathematics, astronomy or astrology can be developed and written in any language without any writing script??? actually such books referred in citations are written by Hindu bramin propoganda teams with non scientific evidences, these people propogate fake credits to Hindu people for any scientific research.in ancient Sanskrit books Hindu bramins defamed foreign authers and researchers same as written in brihadsamhita.
