Distance from Pylos, Greece

[edit]

The article Extremes on Earth claims that Calypso Deep is located 45 kilometres south-west of Pylos, Greece. This website gives a distance of 16 km, but Google Maps shows the coordinates of 35°07'34.33" N, 21°05'27.86" E as being at least 100 km south-west of Pylos. –BLACK FALCON (TALK) 05:43, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maximum depth contradiction

[edit]

Ok, so which is it? 5,267 m or 5,109 m? 24.141.162.0 (talk) 17:24, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Geographic name

[edit]

The article doesn't mention when this deep spot was first discovered or named. Could it be that the name was derived from the famous research expedition ship, RV Calypso, famous from the work of Jacques Cousteau across several decades? Deep points in the oceans are often named for the ships that first identified them or measured them, like the Challenger Deep in the Marianas Trench. 188.150.64.57 (talk) 08:42, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever the inspiration of the name, if you can find a source that covers it, i will make sure to add it to the article. Demetrios1993 (talk) 16:54, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
