Source verification[edit]

Hi Wham- Please notice that the material in bold was from “Candy Lightner: Founder of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).“ The Wikipedia entry is clearly sourced from that page and indicating so does not constitute spam. To the contrary, it is proper documentation. Its also important in correcting the assertion added on 31-12-06 that the Wikipedia entry is “Based primarily on material on MADD's official website.” In reality, the MADD site has virtually nothing about Candy Lightner and recently even denied that she was the founder o the organization. Cleanup[edit]

I've removed some of the statements that were still unsourced, per WP:BLP. If you add them back, make sure there's a reliable source to refer to, and add that source. Also, sources quoting another source don't work very well, please try to get hold of the original (via archives, for instances). It's a lot more work, but relying on others to interpret and quote other sources has proved problematic in the past. --Joanne B 10:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

American River College[edit]

Lightner went to American River College? Isn't that the college where they had that Black Chalks American College Testing Service deletion scandal? She was there years before it happened, but things tend to cumulate. Link to Postdam.edu site[edit]

Based on WP:BLP, I have removed the external link to a potsdam.edu website funded by the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States. Although David J. Hanson may be separately notable, his articles on this website may not be, especially given the website's disclaimer as to other funding and content. While some of Hanson's ongoing POV edits here have been removed over the 3 years since he created the article, the external link was obviously not to an objective article or accurately described. If the link goes back in, it needs a correct description and disclaimer, along with other links that provide more objective info, but I wanted to discuss it here first, since there are a number of other links to this website and articles throughout Wikipedia. Much essay content added - I removed it[edit]

Much essay content was added, and some quotes were changed. No new sources were added, some were removed. I have reverted the edit. If anyone supports it, please join the discussion. Propose to drop the "brains aren't developed" quote[edit]

I don't see this as one of her "known-for" or even noteworthy quotes... the ref is to a video, I don't see it reused in the press. I left it in because it does have a source. But do we need it? I don't see any. Do you have a link? A blog entry is not publicity. And... a quote sourced to a video? It isn't the subject of the video. Reason.com is a rather high profile, reputable news site. And you'll note that that article cited another site (though the link is no longer working). If you'd rather source the quote to the article instead of the video, then fine. Either way, the quote should be included. The whole quote section was removed by someone because none of the quotes were sourced, well this quote IS sourced, the quote and the section should be restored. An interested editor might make an effort to create an entry on wikiquote. I don't think it will make it, but I have been wrong before and will again.

I don't expect to kill the section if it is restored, but I expect someone else will. In wp:quote "Do not insert any number of quotations in a stand-alone quote section."

The best way to add quotes to a WP article, if they are needed ...and this one isn't, IMO... is to build them into the prose of the article. The idea of WP is to put into the editors own words what appears in the media.User talk:Unfriend12 21:14, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

@Ponyo: Candace Lightner is the founder of MADD, the CEO, President and Chairman of the Board. She masterminded MADD from a small California grass roots organization into a international corporation with more than 400 chapters worldwide and an annual budget of over 12 million dollars. . She is the person responsible for helping to change laws regarding drunk driving, written a book, had a movie made about her life, she is in the Smithsonian with an exhibit, won numerous awards, including those presented to her by the President of the United States, public speaker, and the list goes on. I think this meets the requirements of notability. So how can I write a page with her name that is being redirected to the MADD page.
