Influence on the arts?[edit]

It might be worth noting that Sauer had a significant influence on many important mid-century, American, avant-garde poets. During the 1950's Charles Olson corresponded with and was heavily influenced by Sauer. Sauer is mentioned by Olson in the prose works "The Gate and the Center", "Bridgework" (on a list of "men worth anyone's study") and "A Bibliography on America For Ed Dorn".

Olson would go on - in his role as rector of Black Mountain College and afterwards - to disseminate Sauer's works to pretty much anyone who would listen. As a result Sauer pops up in poets such as Ed Dorn, Robert Duncan and Robert Creeley.

Geographer James J Parsons has an article on the subject entitled: "'Mr Sauer'" and the Writers" (http://www.jstor.org/pss/215139)

Are there any other artists that Sauer influenced?

Maybe a broad section entitled "Influence" (or something) could include this information along with info on Sauer's influence on geography and the sciences.

Thoughts?

Graduate students[edit]

The content of the section on Sauer's graduate students overlaps with Berkeley School of Latin Americanist Geography. I'd suggest trimming down the section of this article to include Sauer's students only. Thanks, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 11:20, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
