Ward or suburb

[edit]

There's two options here. Take your pick. But an electoral ward is very different to a suburb, and needs completely different content as a result. ADD SOME PROSE! And the correct choice is suburb. An article about the ward would be at Castle Hill (electoral ward) or similar. You can't use ward statistics to describe a place.--Nilfanion (talk) 18:14, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, the common practice for CPs is to have 1 article for the village and CP, take Polstead for example, it uses parish statistics to describe it. Do we need separate articles? I don't think so unless there is significant coverage of the suburb, even more so than Polstead a good reason not to have separate articles. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:21, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A civil parish is different to an electoral ward.
The boundaries of a civil parish tend to be stable for long periods, and tend to correspond to "natural" boundaries of places. The boundaries of electoral wards change every time they are reviewed. It is extremely unlikely they actually match up to any real area. What is Castle Hill? Can you actually say anything about the area? Apart from that it elects councillors?
An article about the ward, and not the suburb should be at some variant of Castle Hill (electoral ward).--Nilfanion (talk) 18:24, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Look at Category:Vale of Glamorgan electoral wards to see what a good ward article should look like (lots of information about elections). You've also got good examples of "area" articles there too. Please just expand the article. Somehow. Or are you not able to? If there's nothing to say, this article should go. Simple as.--Nilfanion (talk) 18:28, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Buttrills contains info for the ward (population data). Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:14, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but its a developed article about the place - in a developed article you can have a sub-section dedicated to the ward, as that one does. I'd be VERY reluctant to include that population data, unless you can be sure the ward of Castle Hill is a fair approximation to the actual district of Castle Hill. It clearly isn't - both Castle Hill Church and Castle Hill School are outside Castle Hill ward!--Nilfanion (talk) 19:45, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Some facts about the ward, even if they change regularly is better than none, I'd note that Whitchurch, Devon includes data for the CP which (at least currently) excludes the village. You make a good point that it probably shouldn't be in the infobox though. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:27, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: moved to Castle Hill, Ipswich, Suffolk.

Of the 5 participating editors, 4 support moving the article and 3 of those support Castle Hill, Ipswich, Suffolk as the new name per WP:UKPLACE, so I find a consensus for that change.(non-admin closure) Havelock Jones (talk) 09:30, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Castle Hill, SuffolkCastle Hill, Borough of Ipswich – Ambiguous with Great Ashfield Castle[1] also in Suffolk and there is also Castle Hill (Ipswich, Massachusetts) so Castle Hill, Ipswich would also be ambiguous so using "Borough of Ipswich" seems most appropriate per WP:UKDISTRICTSCrouch, Swale (talk) 20:16, 19 October 2021 (UTC)— Relisting. —usernamekiran • sign the guestbook(talk) 16:26, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
