INFLATED SALES

[edit]

I agree completly but even though anyone can edit wikipedia only a few people are really in charge. So if we tried to change the sales to their correct amount it would be considered vandalism and it would be reverted.

To whomever made the unsigned comment directly above. If you can cite reliable, verifiable sources to show sales, you should do so. It is NOT vandalism to correct or REMOVE UNreliable sources and the thus UNreliable info placed into the discog from them. We ALL need to realize however, the 'timing' factor. We can replace 'OLD' reliable, verifiable sources that show 'lower' sales with 'NEWER' reliable, verifiable sources that show 'higher' sales. This is just due to the passage of time.
I hope this is helpful.—Iknow23 (talk) 00:29, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And to your worries of your edits being considered vandalism and just reverted, please ALWAYS explain your edits in the 'Edit summary' as what you put there displays when the 'history' tab on the article is looked at for your edit. After all, there is a reason for what you are doing (your edit) YES?...so let us know. As long as what you are doing is proper (or even improper but in good faith) it should NOT be considered vandalism. If other editors disagree (feel the material is improper) they can REVERT it as you say, but they need to explain why. And for greater and more continued discussion of the matter...well, it can be brought to the article's TALK page, like where we are now.—Iknow23 (talk) 00:41, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Album shipment instead of sales

[edit]

I was looking through and D'elles has not sold 0.5 million copies in one week. Shipped I believe but it has not sold that amount. According to the global chart [1]it has only sold 133, 000 in its first week. I know some countries arent included but it includes most Eurpoean and North American countries so I doubt that is sold almost 4 TIMES that amount elsewhere.

Fair-use on discographies test case

[edit]

Please see Talk:The_Beatles_discography#Poll_on_the_use_of_fair-use_images_on_this_page_and_the_interpretation_of_policy which is acting as a test case in this matter. Jooler 09:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

INFLATED SALES 2

Inclusion of Nielsen SoundScan figures

[edit]

Hey everyone, Max24 and I don't seem to agree on a certain point, so before we start an edit war I'd like you guys to take a look to keep things amicable. As you know, Nielsen SoundScan began in 1991, hurting the actual sales of listed albums from before, such as Madonna's The Immaculate Collection which was released in 1990, and is certified Diamond, but only has sales of 5.7M recorded. Well anyway as you see here and here both Mariah and Madonna's sales are listed in the discography sections with there sources, as with many other artists. So I went and did it to Celine Dion's album discography. Anyway I'd like you guys to see here the differences in our versions of the page. My version is the right column, his old version is the lefft column. Now to make your decision easier I'd also like for you guys to see the discussion we had about it, so you understand both out views on it as well. For what Max wrote to me when he reverted, please see here...and for what I responded to his logic and reversion, see here. Thanks everyone, I'd just rather do things without an edit war this time...Hopefully we'll reach a consensus!--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 21:11, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculous reversions, U.S. sales are important because most of the time for the likes of Madonna and Carey, they always get certifications when the sales don't match up, it leads people to think the albums did sell that much when they didn't. Jayy008 (talk) 23:52, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. US sales are a MAJOR market for this artist, and as the material is reliably and verifiably sourced, I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed.
  2. The link http://www.ticketspecialists.com/lasvegas/celine_dion_tickets.htm does NOT show any sales information so the material that is claimed to be from it needs to be RE-sourced to a VALID reliable, verifiable ref or REMOVED. I'm sure that the material appeared there at an earlier time, but not now. I am also unsure if Ticket Specialists is a reliable, verifiable source? Can't some better source be used?
  3. I agree that NO ONE owns ANY articles at Wikipedia. See above the 'Edit summary' by clicking 'Save page' button "You irrevocably agree to release your contributions under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL."
These are some things that caught my attention. I have not comprehensively reviewed the entire article.—Iknow23 (talk) 01:51, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well I Agree with Iknow, Ticketspecialists & Superpics, both sources being used in this article ar unreliable for sales figures. As you probably remember Iknow, we had this discussion on the Mariah Carey albums discography, with the consensus leading to the source being removed from All her album pages. Since ticketspecialists was removed from Carey's discography, as per the consensus, I believe it and especially Superpics should be removed. In addition to that it seems we are close to having our consensus as 3 of us already agree.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 02:17, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

US sales figures are significant enough to include in articles about Dion. They constitute 30%-50% of her sales.—Kww(talk) 06:24, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the SoundScan sales. Max24 (talk) 12:31, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Max, 8notes is not a reliable source, not in the slightest. It's an old source that was removed from all MC pages since when I first started.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 18:24, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And this just goes to show you Max, you are exactly what you accuse me of. You only make changes that Benefit Celine Dion. Even though you seem to think 8notes is reliable (it's not), and it lists All of her album sales, you only replaced it with certain albums, certainly not ones that reduce her current sales. This shows your dishonest, because in addition I already told you before that 2 sources that contradict can't be used in the same article. However we allowed it because Ticketspecialists didn't have all her albums and neither did superPics. Now however we have a source that You find reliable that lists All her albums, and you still won't replace it so not to hurt her sales. My examples, the ones you didn't change in her discography. Celine Dion the source says 5M, yet you left 5.5M, because that's what YOU believe it sold, and didn't change the source either. Next D'eux, the source says 8M, yet you didn't change the figures, because you want it to stay at 9M, because that's what you believe. These are special Times says 15M even though the source You picked which lists all her albums says 13.5M, why, because you don't want to hurt her sales, even though they are NOT true. Either way 8notes & superpics are NOT reliable so they will be soon removed.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 18:38, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see that US sales have been added to the article as most have said is appropriate.
Other matters...8Notes is NOT a reliable source as it is a Wiki mirror as evidenced by clicking on the links in its Discography section - Singles and also the Tours sections. It provides NO SOURCES for the material claimed other than links to wiki. The whole page set-up there seems to be perhaps an OLD version of Dion's wiki page? This material MUST be removed.—Iknow23 (talk) 02:01, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
SuperiorPics...based upon their website name, I tend to believe that their focus is on PICTURES, so that their "Celebrity Profiles" are probably mirrors from other sites. I don't see any sources (references) given there. I lean quite heavily to thinking it an UNverifiable source. I think better sources should be used for this material.—Iknow23 (talk) 02:25, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree, which is why I removed 8notes already and fixed the Worldwide sales. Superpics however, as much as I agree with you, I think should stay until a more reliable source can match it. If not, we'll be left with an empty page as this page has been created on unreliability.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 02:32, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see that removal of SuperiorPics will leave 'an empty page' as it is only cited 4 times (3 at CURRENTLY shown ref #11, and once at CURRENTLY shown ref #15).
Surprised that French language albums do NOT show worldwide sales? or were they ONLY released in Quebec??—Iknow23 (talk) 02:41, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just counted and you'r right. I will remove it as well, being that even Dion's 2 biggest sellers are source otherwise. Besides for Celine releasing around 40 albums in her career, only D'eux and like 2 more were hits in France and elsewhere. Also some of them (like 8) were released before she became a worldwide star. She was making albums for like 7 years before she hit it big in America.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 02:53, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
oh Ok.
Just noticed that 'French language albums' sections is out of alignment. Some certs are appearing in the Sales columns?Iknow23 (talk) 03:08, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
^ never mind, I see you've fixed it already.—Iknow23 (talk) 03:12, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, don't worry I just fixed it!--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 03:11, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added new sources and the numbers according to them. Max24 (talk) 11:15, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I've just added certifications sources. Max24 (talk) 17:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Max, the (famous people) source doesn't work, it's a broken link. Before we can even judge whether a source is reliable, we need to be able to see it. Thanks.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 18:24, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What about a Billboard source from the battle of the divas discussions? I'll find one on one of the other diva's articles, and match the sales to the Billboard source given, if Max inflates or reverts my edits, I'll report him. Jayy008 (talk) 18:39, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Petergriffin9901: The link is working, it's not broken. Maybe you've had a temporary problem.
Jayy008: I've already added Billboard battle of the divas numbers to this article. And each album article contains that number and shipment number. I don't understand your post. Max24 (talk) 18:44, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I apologize, I was hasty, you've already done it, but I have removed two fake things you've done, you added that link for two albums (400,000 + 100,000 can't remember album names) aswell which the link doesn't say anything about. That's vandalism by making assumptions. Jayy008 (talk) 18:48, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First source [2] is from August 2009 (before Christmas time). This source [3] is from December 2009 and says: "Josh Groban's Noel tops the 5 million mark this week. It's the fourth holiday album to reach that threshold, following Kenny G's Miracles-The Holiday Album (7,215,000), Celine Dion's These Are Special Times (5,123,000) and Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas (5,048,000)." The author is Billboards editor Paul Grein.
Second source [4] is a paper version of Billboard issue from September 2007. At the bottom there is a table with all SoundScan numbers, titled "Steady as she goes". All sources come from Billboard and I have used the latest that are available. Max24 (talk) 18:58, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

God, there's no hope for you, it still doesn't say one of the albums sold 100,000 copies, but it sorts the other ones out, why don't you use those sources? Then perhaps it might not be removed? Jayy008 (talk) 19:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand. What 100,000 copies? Max24 (talk) 19:24, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't matter now you've sorted it all. Jayy008 (talk) 19:27, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment on source dates as brought up above by Max24.
As I said above Talk:Celine Dion albums discography#INFLATED SALES. "...We ALL need to realize however, the 'timing' factor. We can replace 'OLD' reliable, verifiable sources that show 'lower' sales with 'NEWER' reliable, verifiable sources that show 'higher' sales. This is just due to the passage of time...." This does NOT constitute a conflict between sources.—Iknow23 (talk) 00:58, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well I still can't view the new source, is anyone experiencing the same problem. I see it as a broken link.--PeterGriffin TalkCont. 03:21, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean this source, It works for me.—Iknow23 (talk) 04:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WMA Figure in Lead

[edit]

I don't know why this is an issue now. Peter seems to think that because Mariah Carey doesn't have the accolade "best-selling female artist" it shouldn't be in any article. I'm not going to divulge into that, because Mariah Carey has nothing to do with the article, and is exactly why Peter's arguments have no merit. It bypasses WP:NPOV completely, and he has yet to provide a meaningful answer to why he objects to the statmement. Also, the sources are all correct, and the statement have been in place for years. I don't even know why all of a sudden, out of completely thin air this has been made an issue. Please comment if you have a legitimate issue with the lead section statment that is in "dispute." Thanks. BalticPat22Patrick (talk) 01:08, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Book sources

[edit]

Book sources require page number parameters in order to verify their information. You can't just post an entire book as a source without any proper guide. If they are not added, the sources will be removed.--PeterGriffinTalk2Me 18:45, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

250 million records sold

[edit]

I think it's pretty fair to add the accepted figure for Célines record sales (which is 200m) and the current claimed sales (which is 250m) altogether, similar to the page of ABBA where they did the same. Loibird90 (talk) 05:57, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
