Naming convention

[edit]

Following naming conventions for neighborhoods of cities, shouldn't this be moved to Chinatown, Oakland, California? Meelar (talk) 16:18, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

What Naming convention for neighborhoods? There are no special naming conventions for cities, unless multiple cities with the same name exist. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names). Also, there are not that many Chinatowns in the world for there to be any confusion. See a list of existing articles at Category:Chinatowns Petersam 22:03, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK. It's just that other neighborhood articles I've seen for U.S. cities have been at [[Neighborhood name, City name, state name]]; I mistakenly assumed that was the convention. Best, Meelar (talk) 20:14, May 15, 2005 (UTC)

Note: Please do not delete the standalone links in the article. They are placeholders and will be expanded into text/prose soon, hopefully by the end of summer. thanks Petersam 23:58, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

WP:NOT a directory

[edit]

This article as it reads right now (Aug 20th) reads very much like a directory. I'm going to go through and see what I can do to clean up the page, which may include deleting some links. Older versions with the links will be found in the page history. --Daniel Olsen 04:55, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note: when removing material, I will move it to User:Daniel Olsen/Chinatown Cleanup. --Daniel Olsen 04:59, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture and infobox

[edit]

Which should be on top, the picture or the infobox with the map? I personally think that that a picture to associate the topic with with which to associate the topic is more useful to more people than a map. I'm changing it to have the picture on top for now, but I'm open to hearing arguments for the other side. --Daniel Olsen 05:37, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

mmurphy36 Peer Review

[edit]

Lead: The lead is informative yet brief. The overall briefness of the lead paragraph enhances the detailing of the rest of the article without sounding redundant.

Structure: The structuring of the article is neat and concise. I like how the article touches basis on the social, geographical, and political/governmental aspects of the topic. However, I think the structuring might make more sense if the geography of location was mentioned first before the "People and Culture" section. By doing so, it can start from overall picture to more detailing through the demographics of the geographical location.

Balance: The article seems to be well balanced in a sense that each section has a good amount of content.

Neutrality: Overall the neutrality of the article is there. However, in reading the "Chinese Community United Methodist Church" paragraph, this could be placed into a whole new section as I feel it was a little bit off topic from the "People and Culture" section. This paragraph about the church could be named under a section such as "Influential Institutions" that were/are impactful on the community.

Source Reliability: Source reliability is apparent. The use of reliable sources such as The Oakland Tribune and direct Oakland governmental websites were utilized throughout.

Overview: Overall the article has great content. To reiterate, the only feedback I would address was creation of a new section, possibly called "Influential Institutions" to provide information of the interrelated institutions that helped Chinatown, Oakland either presently or throughout its history. The amount of content in each section is par level. However, under the "Education" section, the "Primary and Secondary schools" paragraph should be taken out if nothing is to be added into it. Peer Review/Suggested Article Improvements

[edit]

Lead -Very well organized and offers a lout of information, but where did all this information come from? Input necessary citations where needed. -Good sentence structure

History -good citations(maybe missing some)/credible sources used; look at source formatting in some sentences-double check that -very informative -offers a lot of information, but may offer too much information. Look into making separate sections where expanding on idea is necessary(i.e. the expansion of Japanese and other Asian immigrants into certain communities in Oakland and throughout the Bay Area, like S.F.)

People and Culture -Look into mentioning common practices from all ethnicitys represented within the community "Chinatown, Oakland" -enjoy how it is straight to the point with information under each sub-heading -great use of built in links, check citations for information under each sub heading

Geography -Citations -very informative, check sentence structure

Government -maybe add something as to why that is important, look into changing order of paragraphs to offer more understanding of section -offers great information and cited properly

Infrastructure -check citations -well written, good sentence structure, but incomplete-change headers or make more clear

add to primary and secondary schools?

All in all, very well written article. With necessary citation changes and revisions this will be the perfect article! Gabbsterxoxo (talk) 08:06, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review Rough Bibliography

[edit]

Complied list of source links I am thinking about using when I edit this article: Plague, Fear, and Politics in San Francisco's Chinatown - https://ebookcentral-proquest-com.proxylib.csueastbay.edu/lib/csueastbay/reader.action?docID=3318629&query= From "Moving Feels Like Home" to "We Will Not Be Moved!": Immigrant Communities Facing Evictions and the Role of Young People's Organizing, Oakland Chinatown, California, 2003-2005 -https://escholarship.org/uc/item/3rf939qj Oakland's Chinatown knows no bounds -http://go.galegroup.com.proxylib.csueastbay.edu/ps/i.do?&id=GALE%7CA15324029&v=2.1&u=csuh_main&it=r&p=ITOF&sw=w&authCount=1

I know one of the sources will for sure work because it is a book, but the others one I am worried do not fit the Wikipedia guidelines although both are peer reviewed, credible sources. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabbsterxoxo (talkcontribs) 08:42, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
