Lady Alice Lyon-Bowes[edit]
Was Lady Alice Lyon-Bowes, a goddaughter of John Bowes, the art collector and illegitimate son of the 10th Earl, a child of this man? She was apparently a daughter of the Earl of Strathmore. See Durham County Records: Strathmore Records letters from John Bowes to the Earl regarding his acting as godfather to Strathmore's daughter, from a collection dated 1867-1885. Durham County Records: Hanby Holmes gives her name and style.
She probably died relatively young, because she is not named in any peerage reference work I have seen.

Funding of the Canadian Pacific Railway[edit]
Could someone add a mention of the Earl's investment in the Canadian Pacific Railway and how that led to the naming of the community of Strathmore, Alberta in his honour? His granddaughter Elizabeth, as Queen consort, visited the town during the 1939 Royal Tour of Canada.
