Transformative use of source

[edit]

Dear Wikipedia editor,

"In 1660, an official pronouncement by Puritan officials in Bristol to forbid cock throwing (as well as cat and dog tossing) on Shrove Tuesday resulted in a riot by the apprentices."

This paragraph implies that Bristol apprentices rioted in reply to a new law banning cock throwing on Shrove Tuesday.

However, the given source suggests that the riots were for reinstating the monarchy and a free parliament, and the new cock throwing law was the "final straw", as it were. Also, the riot happening on Shrove Tuesday was incidental, whereas the paragraph implies the specific banning of cock throwing on Shrove Tuesday.

I would have made a correction myself except I fear I would degrade the quality of the topic. PanitGorem (talk) 07:37, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
