Name origin

[edit]

It may be in BCGNIS, I haven't looked yet, but I happen to know this lake was named for one of the Kanaka employees of the HBC, not for the lake in southern Switzerland/northern Italy....Skookum1 (talk) 18:38, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the other Como Lake in BC

[edit]

As I suspected there's another Como Lake in BC, the other one up by the Yukon border...not sure how to disambiguate that one and not sure yet whether it requires an article, which it might; for now I'll use "Atlin" but will resolve that once I look at the GeoBase map - actually I just looked at BCGNIS and it says just north of the town of Atlin, so "Atlin Lake" will do as there is no Atlin River (normal procedure for dabs is to refer to teh river system if there is no other delineator; in this case "Yukon River" would be inappropriate); here are the NTS maps and coords of each:

  • Como Lake (Atlin Lake) NTS map 104N/12 59°36′00″N 133°41′00″W / 59.60000°N 133.68333°W / 59.60000; -133.68333 "Como Lake". BC Geographical Names.
  • Como Lake (British Columbia) NTS map 92G/7 49°16′00″N 122°51′00″W / 49.26667°N 122.85000°W / 49.26667; -122.85000 "Como Lake". BC Geographical Names.

I recommend that anyone makign a placename article in BC consult BCGNIS first to ascertain how many of anything there might be and sort out the dabs from there first....I'd used "Coquitlam" in the lakes list because I kind of knew or suspected anyway about the existence of this other one...Skookum1 (talk) 18:38, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
