"Posthumous letter"

[edit]

Perhaps can we change the title to "Open letter"? It was written by him in life, and dated to a date during his life. Yes, it was only released posthumously, but I wonder if the term fits. -- Zanimum (talk) 23:35, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think it is possible to copy and paste the letter (with RS citation) up here? I thought it's quite marvelously written. --Bobthefish2 (talk) 01:30, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Notwithstanding the fact that Wikipedia is not a soapbox nor a memorial, quoting the whole letter or significant portions of it would amount as a copyright violation, even if cited, per Wikipedia:Quotations#Copyrighted material and fair use. — Charlie Echo Tango01:42, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Then can we put it in Wikiquotes or put a link to the letter? By the way, I doubt the letter is copyrighted. --Bobthefish2 (talk) 19:39, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I didn't notice a link was already put there. --Bobthefish2 (talk) 19:54, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright is automatic, so yes it's copyrighted. --yycguy81 (Talk) 19:56, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just to expand on Yycguy81's point, if you doodle on the side of a notepad tomorrow, that's copyrighted, just as if someone painted a masterpiece. Same goes for your last email, it's copyrighten. -- Zanimum (talk) 03:43, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion?

[edit]

I don't think this article is necessary. There's nothing in here that isn't found in the Jack Layton article other than dates and times of the state funeral. It seems to only serve as a memorial for Jack's death, something which isn't generally accepted on Wikipedia. Can we WP:SPEEDY under A10 without it being contested? I'm putting the tag up in 24 hours. EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 00:47, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While the scale -and context- is different, it is similar to Death and state funeral of Pierre Trudeau or Death and state funeral of Ronald Reagan. In time there will be a lot more to this article, I can only imagine the quantity of media coverage there will be this week-end. It will then have achieved significant notability by itself, like most high profile funerals. — Charlie Echo Tango00:52, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I guess someone beat me to it. I suppose when you look at it that way, I would agree. I'd just like for this article to be expanded to avoid it being a pure fork. EricLeb01 (Page | Talk) 03:25, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It will be in time, I'm not worried about that. I agree with you it looks like useless fork now, but it's still a notable event by itself which definitely warrants a fork, at least in my view. Cheers, — Charlie Echo Tango03:48, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Erm, look at my new section below. This can be expanded... – Connormah (talk) 05:48, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ironically, so can the death section of the Jack Layton article, reducing duplication and redundancy, two major points of WP:MERGE. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 10:46, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

yes yes yes delete it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.94.90.97 (talk) 00:03, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think this could be quite easily merged into Layton's main article. The blow-by-blow schedule of the upcoming events really isn't appropriate for an encyclopedia article. One-sentence paragraphs (with section headers) are unlikely to be expanded. His main article will need to have a "Legacy" section anyways, so the political impact of his death can be covered there. Expansion

[edit]

I think we can include details on the funeral now: see [1]. Tributes can be expanded from [2] and [3]. – Connormah (talk) 02:38, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CN Tower photo

[edit]

Is anybody able to get out and get a nice closeup photo of the CN Tower glowing orange? I live near the Leaside Viaduct, so I can get a distant shot if nobody else can, but it won't be the greatest. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 03:48, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Death and state funeral of Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 00:49, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
