Needs a plot summary
[edit]The plot was copied from http://www.movietubeon.com/watch-dirty-grandpa-full-movie/, which was published on January 22, 2016. That text was pasted into the plot section seven days later. It's a copyright violation and cannot stand.
So the article still needs a good plot summary, one that is between 400 and 700 words long, per WP:FILMPLOT. I use this free online tool to count words in the plot section. Binksternet (talk) 14:21, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
Worst
[edit]For all the talk about NPOV and UNDUE it seems strange that people have rushed to call this film one of the worst ever made. Yes it is a mess and got terrible reviews, but it wasn't even the worst of the year. There were plenty of films that received worse reviews, four films from 2016 made the List of films with a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (Cabin Fever, Dark Crimes, The Disappointments Room, Max Steel, Precious Cargo and were more but films with less reviews don't get added to that list). Months later by the end of the year critics had found films far worst to include on their worst lists.
Looking at the worst films nominated at the 2016 Golden Raspberry awards:
- Hillary's America: RT: 4% (27) MC: 2% (17)
- Batman v Superman: RT: 28% (410) MC: 44% (51)
- Dirty Grandpa: RT: 11% (133) MC: 21% (27)
- Gods of Egypt: RT: 5% (185) MC: 25% (25)
- Independence Day 2: RT: 29% (219) MC: 32% (40)
- Zoolander 2: RT: 23% (226) MC: 34% (42)
The critical response section goes on at length and indulges the critics who complained how terrible the film was, but the section did not do enough to actually analyse the particulars of the film. People have unrealistically high expectations from Robert DeNiro and have been repeatedly disappointed by his comedy films,[1] which I think counts for some of the vitriol. The script received praise and some of that potential is still visible.[2]. Some critics were able to enjoy the few better moments of the film that did work "Dirty Grandpa has sporadic moments of hilarity" [3].
As for audiences, the film received a B grade from audiences surveyed by CinemaScore, and that isn't a good score but it is a passing grade and indicates audiences got more or less got what they were expecting: "A B grade signals general satisfaction, if not wild enthusiasm."[4]
I don't think anyone is going to go so far as to call this a good film, but claims that this film was the worst ever were hyperbole and a failure of recentism. I seriously doubt this film or any of the other Golden Raspberry films were bad enough to make worst of the decade lists. This film might not even be the worst film in De Niros career [5] . Efron continues to make lots of money from differently awful films such as Baywatch (film) (2017). Even claims that it was the worst film the year 2016 need to be better supported by reputable sources.
In summary it was bad but claims that it was the worst of anything are recentism and WP:UNDUE hyperbole. -- 109.76.202.23 (talk) 16:54, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
