Buddhist festival

[edit]

I strongly dispute that Dongzhi Festival is a Buddhist festival. The Dongzhi Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday (as well as Korean and Japanese, which they got it from China) with no relation to Buddhism. Dongzhi Festival had been celebrated long before Buddhism was introduced to China. I had removed the Buddhist festival category from the article as well as Wikiproject Buddhism from this talk page. --Joshua Say "hi" to me!What I've done? 04:31, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it doesn't have anything to do with Buddhism. Logically it would appear to derive from ancient farming traditions. Everyone I know in Hong Kong agrees that the significance of the festival is even more important than Chinese New Year, even though Dongzhi is not an official holiday. Other than that the opening paragraph seems to be correct, though I wonder what the writer's sources are. Stephen A (talk) 23:01, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism

[edit]

The article found at this link is a duplicate of the wikipedia article;

Cannot tell which was written first, but obviously plagiarism by one or the other. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.151.180.212 (talk) 00:40, 23 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

'Globalize' tag for 冬至

[edit]

I'm not sure how seriously to take this, given the lack of interwiki links to Japanese, Korean or Vietnamese articles. id:Dongzhi and ms:Pesta Dongzhi call it a Chinese holiday. Though I don't read the languages vi:Đông chí and ko:동지 seem to be about the solstice and not about holiday observances. ja:冬至#習俗 at least has a picture of stewed pumpkin, but seems to say the holiday is called ja:星まつり: are these really the same thing?
