Fair use rationale for Image:Douglascollege.gif

[edit]

Image:Douglascollege.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Edit proposal

check Partially implemented

  1. The information under "Academic staff" was declined, as the information replacing it did not specify whether this new number represents faculty, staff, administration, or a cumulative total including all of these categories.
  2. The information under the "Athletics section" request contained clear direction as to its handling ("Replace entire paragraph with...") and was implemented.
  3. The information under "Campuses" was incomplete, and only the first part of that request was implemented.
  4. The following requested sequence of sentences were declined as incomplete (It also has training centres in Surrey, Maple Ridge and Burnaby. The David Lam Campus...").
  5. The information under "Programs" was declined. No directions were specified as to which actions were desired, i.e., deletion or addition ("Rewrite needed. Information is outdated, educational pathway options are missing, new bachelor programs are missing, section about BA in Performing Arts partnership no longer accurate. Current Douglas offerings are:...") followed by additional information without the requisite directions.
  6. "Rewrite needed..." If a rewrite is necessary, this should take place before the edit request stage, with the request itself delineating with acute specificity, what is to be added or deleted, along with all necessary documentation. See below for example. Kindly resubmit your request incorporating all of these elements at your earliest convenience. I assure you our response will be expedited. Edit Request - RESUBMIT

@Spintendo: Please find below a resubmission of my proposed edits incorporating the information you requested. Note that I did not include any requests that were already implemented. I apologize that I was unable to replicate your reference table, I attempted to do so and it did not work properly for me.

Extended content
  • Academic staff in side column: there are 900 faculty (instructors). The existing title of "academic staff" is unclear, however as the back-end coding uses the word "faculty", this is the number we provided. There are a total of 1800 employees at Douglas, including all faculty, staff, administrators, etc. Please update this section with the number you feel is most appropriate.[Source: https://www.douglascollege.ca/about-douglas]
  • Campus section: Table below shows clarification of our edit request, using original text prior to the partial implementation.
Previous text Replace with
The college has four major learning centres: the New Westminster Campus, the David Lam Campus in Coquitlam, the Surrey Training Centre (which specializes in short-term training programs) and the Surrey Learning Centre (which specializes in English language services for adults). The David Lam Campus completed a $39 million expansion in January 2008, adding a large Health Sciences Centre for nursing students, psychiatric nursing, and health information management. The college has two campuses: the New Westminster and the David Lam Campus in Coquitlam.[1] A third campus will open at the Anvil Centre in 2018.[2] It also has training centres in Surrey, Maple Ridge and Burnaby.

[3] The David Lam Campus completed a $39 million expansion in January 2008, adding a large Health Sciences Centre for nursing students, psychiatric nursing, and health information management.

  • Programs section: We were suggesting the entire section be rewritten using the information we provided. Due to our conflict of interest, we were unsure about the appropriateness of providing the rewritten text. As per your request for further direction, we have provided a suggested revision here.
Current text Replace with
Douglas provides four major areas of educational service: university degrees, diplomas, university transfer programs, continuing education in professional and personal upgrading and over 30 major career-training programs. Douglas has also started offering 'post-degree diplomas', which are one-year programs offered in certain subjects to help students upgrade their skills in new areas.

The selection of career programs includes full degrees: Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing, Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation, Bachelor of Business Administration, BA in Child and Youth Care, Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching and a new standalone Bachelor of Applied Psychology degree, which kicked off in January 2014. Recent additions to the bachelor roster include the BA in Performing Arts[4] done in partnership with Capilano University, Langara College and Vancouver Community College as well as a BA in Psychology done in partnership with Thompson Rivers University.[5]

Douglas offers 11 bachelor’s degrees: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing; Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation; Bachelor of Business Administration; Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching; Bachelor of Performing Arts; Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care; Bachelor of Arts in Psychology; Bachelor of Arts in Applied Psychology; Bachelor of Arts in Applied Criminology; and Bachelor of Social Work. Douglas' undergraduate credentials include certificates, diplomas, associate of arts degrees, and associate of science degrees.[6] Additionally, Douglas offers post-bachelor diplomas[7] – post-degree (1 year), post-baccalaureate (2 years), and graduate (1 or 2 years) – and non-credit programs including continuing education[8], adult special education, adult basic education, and career and employment training[9].

Douglas College offers Co-operative Education (Co-op), which integrates academic studies with related work experience. Co-op students can alternate semesters of classroom studies with semesters of paid, full-time employment.[10]

  • International Education section: Clarification of edit request. Current information is outdated.
Current text Replace with
Douglas College currently has more than 1,400[11] international students taking credit courses, with nearly half currently coming from China, and the rest coming from India, South Korea, Russia, Mexico and South America. Students from 69 countries account for roughly 10 percent of full-time students[12] at the College. Each year, 3000 international students from over 90 countries take for-credit courses at Douglas College, accounting for roughly 12.5 percent of the student population[13].

Reply and list of changes made 16-JAN-2018

[edit]

checkY Article revised. The following changes have been made to the article:

  1. The section on campuses has been updated to indicate which are currently active. Future campus activity, including the cost of refurbishing current buildings, was omitted. (Please add "It also has training centres in Surrey, Maple Ridge and Burnaby." The training centres are where our adult basic education and non-credit training programs are held.)
  2. Information on the different "faculties" was removed, as the reference citation for this was to an archival site. Current information about the different departments should be used as references when discussing those departments. (This was not a section I requested edits to, however, it seems like beneficial information to include. Here is a current reference: https://www.douglascollege.ca/programs-courses/faculties)
  3. Likewise, information regarding scholarships used the reference of an archived page. Information about current scholarships should be cited using current websites.
  4. Information regarding Alumni, because it makes mention of living people, should come from independent sourcing, not from the University's own blog.
  5. The article requires additional sources from outside of the University (see WP:UNDERCITE and WP:GARDEN). Until then, the refimprove template has been added to the article. Please note that sources can include local area or national media. Sources from the Government of Canada, including sourcing from other educational facilities which mention this University, may also be used. (Sources for which sections/information?)
  6. The infobox for universities assigns staff as either academic or administrative. Currently, only the figure for academic staff is shown. Please provide a number for administrative staff at your earliest convenience. (As mentioned above, there are 900 faculty (academic staff) and 900 administrative staff. https://www.douglascollege.ca/about-douglas)
  7. If any information in the article is incorrect, please advise here on the talk page as soon as possible, so that the information may be corrected. (Information regarding non-bachelor programs not included. Information about all educational programs offered at the college seems like useful information. Please consider adding: "Douglas' undergraduate credentials include certificates, diplomas, associate of arts degrees, and associate of science degrees.[4] Additionally, Douglas offers post-bachelor diplomas [5] – post-degree (1 year), post-baccalaureate (2 years), and graduate (1 or 2 years) – and non-credit programs including continuing education [6], adult special education, adult basic education, and career and employment training [7].")
