He also plays the violin/fiddle. I saw him perform at the Iowa State fair fiddle contest in the summer of 2006. 75.170.192.71 (talk) 06:03, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This page looks like it was written by a campaign staffer.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not with Ed Fallon or any other candidate for Governor. I'm just an observer of my state's political scene. --12.217.121.245 18:25, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The list of state representatives links to several incorrect Wikipedia pages. I don't know how to fix it, but it needs to be addressed. For example, Murphy and Drake are incorrect. stemperm 06:31, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

So, Ed and Kristin have filed for divorce. What's more is that the person who added that information to Ed's profile has the username "LHeuss," likely the same Lynn Heuss that traveled around the state with Ed both before and after the primary election. Not that it's any of my or anyone's business, but I can't help but wonder if that's just a coincidence...

I got s fund raising letter calling his opponent a Bush Democrat. Could more info on the primary be added? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.175.86.191 (talk) 06:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of sexual misconduct claims

[edit]

Today, an anonymous editor removed the section about sexual misconduct claims against Fallon. I believe this was the right move.

Generally, Wikipedia policy is that we include noteworthy information about a subject, whether or not it is favorable. That being said, we're also very cognizant of concerns about false claims and violation of privacy in articles about living people. In this case, the material in question was only supported by a primary source, a link to the Facebook post covering the allegations. For something like this, we'd want to wait for a secondary source—say, a newspaper—to decide that it's worth covering, at which point we might include in in the article, citing that. But unless and until something like that happens (I haven't checked), the claims should stay out. Gaelan 💬✏️ 20:17, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the removal, those "sources" are so horrible that using only them seems like a BLP violation. Can we get some sources that aren't a forum, Facebook, and the Sierra Club's own website? Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 00:08, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I went WP:BOLD and removed the section. With an actual edit summary so people understand why it's being removed. Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 00:14, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gatemansgc: @Gaelan: Despite its name, fallonforum.com is actually a blog run by Ed Fallon himself, named after his talk show. The source archived here (since deleted) is a direct statement in which Fallon outlines and denies several of the allegations. He also further accuses Pearson of making unwanted sexual advances toward him. Attached were letters of support from 18 of his family members/associates.
I don't believe the deleted section was defamatory, because it did not claim that the contentious accusations were true, only that they are notable enough to receive some mention on this biography. I'm not really sure if that's the case, but considering that both Fallon and the Sierra Club acknowledged and responded to the allegations, I think the allegations and Fallon's response may still deserve due weight on the article. Jessica Fears' statements seem to be reproduced accurately in the Fallon Forum source, so if restored, we should probably remove the reference to Facebook.
As the IP editors (both located in Council Bluffs, Iowa) have already created something of a WP:BRRR scenario with this edit, I'm hesitant to restore the deleted material again, pending further discussion. RoxySaunders (talk · contribs) 01:17, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RoxySaunders: Since the forum is a blog run by Fallon himself, per WP:BLOG: Never use self-published sources as third-party sources about living people, even if the author is an expert, well-known professional researcher, or writer.
I agree that allegations like these are notable and should be covered, but we need coverage in reliable third-party sources. I did a quick Google search and could barely find anything covering this! I'm very inexperienced digging deep to find sources, I usually focus on vandalism fighting and minor edits. I'm out of my element.
However an IP put the content back so I will be reverting again. Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 02:36, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're misunderstanding WP:BLOG slightly. Fallon's blog is explicitly not a "third-party source". It's being cited here as a reliable source for statements Fallon has made. See WP:BLPSPS, which elaborates, never use self-published sources [...] as sources of material about a living person, unless written or published by the subject of the article. Guess I should have scrolled down a bit oops Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 03:01, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I should just stick to what I'm good at, fighting vandalism... Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 03:09, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gatemansgc: Don't sell yourself short! I too mostly troll around RecentChanges, but getting involved in discussions is a perfect way to get better acquainted with policy and improve your editing chops. RoxySaunders (talk · contribs) 03:19, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have just protected the page and suppressed the revisions that were making allegations based on Facebook posts. WP:BLP requires strong sourcing for allegations like this, and Facebook does not qualify. GorillaWarfare (talk) 02:38, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GorillaWarfare: Thank you! I had a feeling this was no good. Gatemansgc (TɅ̊LK) 02:41, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look. Barring the improbable sudden appearance of any secondary sources regarding this obscure controversy, I'll drop the stick for now. RoxySaunders (talk · contribs) 03:16, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
