Name

[edit]

I've found reference to this cemetery as "Eden Memorial Cemetery" (at, e.g., Find-A-Grave--see link on main page) and as "Garden of Eden Cemetery". There was also an "Eden Cemetery" in Philadelphia on Haverford Avenue (not listed at Find-A-Grave), which might be related to this one.--BillFlis (talk) 22:40, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Haverford Avenue address might be that of the cemetery's management office.--BillFlis (talk) 12:29, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Eden Memorial Cemetery" is in Los Angeles, CA. This Cemetery is only known as "Eden Cemetery". The Haverford Avenue adress is the business office address for the Cemetery. The Cemetery itself is located on Springfield Road in Collingdale, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, on "Find A Grave" someone put the "Memorial" word in the name and it has been perpetuated like most mistakes that are not corrected. Since I have many family members buried in Eden Cemetery, I also have the grave deeds. All of them state that the legal name of the Cemetery is "The Eden Cemetery Company". —Preceding unsigned comment added by MTBZWAY (talkcontribs) 19:54, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oldest Black cemetery is not Eden

[edit]

Oldest Black cemetery is not Eden. I oversee the oldest Black cemeteries in DC and they were established in 1808 Mt Zion Cemetery and Female Union Band Society Cemetery 1842 and I'm not sure but doubt they are oldest Black cemeteries in the country but they are definitely order than Eden. Keels reference is pretty solid and says Eden is the oldest "black owned" cemetery. Dwkaminski (talk) 15:06, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
correct. The cemetery in Milton Florida was purchased in 1887. I have the deeds. That would make us compared to yours and Eden the 2nd oldest African American cemetery in the United States 2600:1702:E70:38D0:E8C9:AEC1:D35E:7EF1 (talk) 20:10, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
