Should not his marriage be mentioned? There is a fine article on his wife, another great person.
What follows is OR, I'm afraid, but perhaps worth preserving about such a great man. As an undergraduate he was invited to spend a long vacation as the guest of Sir HM Plowden at Leintwardine, Herefordshire, and thereafter always tried to take his holidays in the Welsh Marches. He hunted one rare edible fungus in particular, to see if its really tasted like roast beef as reputed, but lamented that "the postman always got it first".  He refused to visit Italy or Greece, and shunned all conferences and symposia.  Exceptionally gracious to all, whether scholars or not. Seadowns (talk) 12:32, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
