The great Elisa Maza debate[edit]

Okay. Let me first say that I'm the last guy to recommend an article be deleted, especially if it creates a lot of red links. It's just...there' nothing. Nothing here, nothing there. Not much of anything anywhere on this extremely important character. Having her name exist as nothing but a redirect is pointless if she doesn't redirect to an article with information on her. Let an expert remake the Elisa Maza page the right way. As is, it just doesn't make the standards. ACS (Wikipedian) 03:59, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Although, I'm very happy that someone finally posted some info on Elisa, but there is WAY too much misinformation. First of all, Diane Maza may be African-American, but nowhere in the character's history does it say that sees Nigerian-American. In the episode "Mark of the Panther", Diane asks Fara how she did in reciting the story. When he tells her she did well, Elisa comes out from hiding and says, "Especially for someone who was born and raised in New York City." Also, Fara invited Diane to participate in the ceremony. She didn't move to Nigeria; it was a one-time thing. And by the way, Diane is a professor of African Studies at Columbia University (Elisa's alma mater), not an anthropologist. Speaking of anthropology, that is not Beth's major. I believe she's majoring in Native American Studies. And in the episode "Cloud Fathers", Coyote appeared as a security guard who looked like young Peter first. Then he hypnotized some men from the tribe do perform the kachina dance. Then he appeared as young Peter wearing jeans and a black leather jacket. There was never a serious relationship between Elisa and Jason. She was attracted to him, yes, and they did kiss, but then she realized that her heart was with Goliath.

Dear, Angel H. (aka Malaika 924), I'm glad you appreciate the work that's gone into this article, and I appreciate you taking the time to comment on this page (although in future it would be nice if you did not blank other people's comments while doing so).

To address your comments, the revelation that Diane is Nigerian-American largely comes from the Ask Greg forums. The events of "Mark of the Panther" take place in Nigeria, and Diane has travelled there, yes at Fara's invitation, but also to become closer to her own roots. She was not born in Nigeria herself (as you said, and as Elisa said in the episode, Diane was born and raised in New York). Nevertheless, Diane's family does originate in Nigeria (on short notice the closest I could find to a citation for this was Greg's notes on the first outline of the episode. If you look around you might find more). Possibly the word "moved" is slightly misleading, and I agree that she had no real intention of staying there permanently.

As for your second point, I think the biggest disagreement is over use of the word "anthropologist". I would personally consider Diane's (and Beth's) study of their chosen cultures to be anthropology. You are correct that "Anthropology" is not the title of either of their specific fields of study, but perhaps it is a more general term that encompasses both. If you disagree, and can think of a more appropriate word, then by all means make the necessary changes.

I'm not sure what your comment refers to about Peter Maza's background. All of the information you have mentioned above about Coyote seems to be correct, but I don't see how it contradicts anything in the article mainspace.

Jason may not have been a serious relationship, but as you said there was an attraction and there was a kiss. Bear in mind that Jason does not have his own section under the "Relationship" heading. He merely has a mention in Goliath's section, to demonstrate how his presence helped motivate Elisa and Goliath to their own first kiss. If you're disputing the use of the word "relationship", then by all means replace it with a more suitable word.

Supermorff: I've reread my comments and it sounded like I was coming off as too harsh. My apologies. Also, this is my first posting to Wikipedia and I didn't know about the netiquette concerning other posts. (Apologies to you also, Ace Class Shadow). I hadn't been to "Ask Greg" in a while, so maybe before I start spouting off at the mouth (er, fingertips?) I should get *my* facts straight. ^_^;

Relationship With Goliath[edit]

The article states the following: "Elisa is most closely associated with Goliath. Her relationship with the noble gargoyle, despite their different species, was the series's backbone. Despite this, the relationship was never rushed: the first person to truly understand that it even existed was actually Demona, Goliath's former mate-turned-vengeful enemy, and her jealousy towards Elisa made the two bitter rivals."
