Notes on Known Issues

[edit]

Elizabeth Saunders Home as far as I know, was open to both Japanese and biracial children since its opening. I have not found any sources that indicate what the ratio of orphans were throughout its history. From anecdotal evidence it seems that that the concentration of mixed race children was highest in the first decade after the war, and have become mostly Japanese by the 70's. I wonder if this is important to show in the article or not. Either way I would like to find some references to support whatever information that is posted in this regard.

Also, the estimates for the total biracial orphans that spent time in the Home is anywhere from 1400 to 2000. Since they vary greatly it's hard for me to decide what source information to use.

There is also the issue of Elizabeth Saunders Home just being an orphanage open to all children. Although historically it's famous for its part in taking care of biracial children immediately after the war, today it's mostly Japanese, and by now I'm pretty sure that the Home has taken on far more Japanese children than it ever did biracial ones. How should the article reflect this?

Sections on Reconstruction and Alumni

[edit]

These sections need more material. Verifiable details on the reconstruction is just hard to come by, and in Alumni I am not sure what should go in there. Should personal accounts of individuals that spent time there be mentioned, if they are from a source such as a newspaper article? What about notable Alumni? Are there any famous people that used to be in ESH?

Other possible Sections and Topics

[edit]

Today ESH is part of St. Stephens School. It's a school, so I wounder if topics such as Campus or Activities, often seen in entries of other schools, will be appropriate.
