"Big Five"
[edit]i believe there should not be a big five league record separately. the big five changes every few years.. for example the dutch league was top 5 in the mid-nineties. i believe the record should not be separate.
I agree with the above. But more importantly, what are the sources for these figures? I see no references. 158.169.9.14 (talk) 09:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
what about dixie dean and his 60 goals in 1927-28 season, regarding the Most goals in one season for a single player? and also, why is there an ivorian team leading the Longest unbeaten streak? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.108.147.122 (talk) 22:50, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Dixie Dean 63 or 67
[edit]Didn't he got 67? Why does it only mentions 63? -- Yandri (talk) 06:13, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
50 goals to be limit
[edit]I did a little research and founded that there are several more players that have achieved 47 goals a season and a LOT more that have achieved 46. I will cut the number to 48.
And also...... it seems that 48 is quite common even though i havent got any reliable source yet. -- Yandri (talk) 13:46, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Maybe the limit should be 60 goals. 1886kusagi (talk) 15:38, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Most consecutive wins (Big 5 Leagues) title
[edit]In what looks like a mistake- the contents section includes the reference numbers in the section title for 'Most consecutive wins (Big 5 Leagues)'. I don't know how to fix this, but it would be great if someone could. Uranium grenade (talk) 19:20, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Most trophies in domestic league
[edit]Why are only listed 2 Scottish clubs? Clubs with most championship titles in each country should be added. 85.246.184.131 (talk)
Incorrect data. Why are you reverting my changes? Not vandlaism. Is this serious?
[edit]The correct ranking for goals in a calendar year is the following: Within official, FIFA accounts friendly national team matches but not domestic club ones.
1.Messi 91 2012
2.Müller 85 1972
3.Cristiano 69 2013
4.Deak 66 1946 *
5.Groo 64 1961 * -> By the way, this needs some source
6.Dean 63 1927 * I am pretty sure this data is
7.Cristiano 63 2012 from a season, not a calendar year
8.Cristiano 61 2014 FIFA said there is no official report
9.Cristiano 60 2011 (60 matches)
10.Messi 60 2010 (65 matches)
11.Messi 59 2011
12.Messi 58 2014
Whoever is blocking the change must be a vandal. I am admitelly merssi fan, which does not mean I cannot correct wrong information. Please correct it. Cristiano ronaldo only scored 63 ogals in official matches in 2012. If friendly mactehs are to be accounted, then MEssi record is 96 goals, not 91.
This admin even reverted my messi domestic goals update, which is reportedly as of today 02-05-15, 283 goals — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.102.115.116 (talk) 17:40, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

FCB is also missing the Eva Duarte trophies account, which has an official status by both fifa and the RFEF
[edit]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Eva_Duart
This trophie was awarded three times to barcelona, of which only 2 were actually played (as it is the old version of the supercup in which the winner of league and cup matched and in case both teams were the same the trophie was automatically awarded). That means FCB has 64 domestic torphies not 61 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.102.115.116 (talk) 19:45, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Linfield should be removed.
[edit]Davefelmer (talk) 04:00, 26 September 2015 (UTC)They are a semi-proffesional club and should not be listed alongside pro teams. Northern Irish football is not profesional. They should be replaced and everyone should move up a place, with Manchester United making up the last spot with 62 trophies.
- Providing 12 hours notice before making such an edit is far from "point was made in talk section and went unchalleneged". Consider your ridiculous claim challenged. Koncorde (talk) 06:20, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

- Just stumbled upon this again. OK, not saying we need to put United in everywhere, but the article needs some serious work. For starters, there needs to be a distinction between pro and semi pro teams. Not saying other clubs werent semi pro at any point in their existence (I havent checked) but the likes of linfield have NEVER been pro. If semi pro clubs are fair game, I am sure I can find one thats won an absolute ton of trophies and in that case, should they be added? I suggest clarifying that its pro teams only for this. Also, I have no idea why there is a section for most trophies in a calendar year; shouldnt it be for a full season instead where you can actually find sources for the info because nobody keeps track of what clubs win in a full year? And why do Celtic have a regional cup included in their trophy haul for their place in that list? What trophies count here? Thats never specified! I'm sure other clubs on that list (Inter, Barca, etc) won little regional trophies the year of their placing on the list as well so should those be found and added? This isnt to mention nothing is sourced practiaclly anywhere! Davefelmer (talk) 20:56, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- There is no requirement to make any distinction. Football teams were not always professionals, many trophies allow cross-competition between Amateur, Semi Professional and Professional teams. Some domestic leagues (such as Germany) were not Professional until much later in the 20th century. And what happens if Linfield tomorrow decide to declare themselves as professionals? Is there actually much of a distinction and are we appropriately placed to make that distinction? No.
- Celtic point is valid, and removed.
- Titles are not all awarded by a single season, and several leagues are summer leagues and so do not span the same periods of time as a English domestic leagues. Some titles are only challenged for in a subsequent season (Charity Shield, Super Cup). The reason behind the description is that all competitions typically resolve their finals within 1 calendar year, and any subsequent cups that come from that initial victory are played within the same calendar year. Highest goal margin (aggregate) in European football incorrect
[edit]193.109.254.24 (talk) 11:42, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Paul Whitfield193.109.254.24 (talk) 11:42, 17 June 2016 (UTC) I am not a Wikipedia editor so I do not want to change the page but just making a suggestion
Re: Section 3: Highest goal margin (aggregate) in European football This is incorrect as an aggregate of 21-0 has been achieved twice. Chelsea v Jeuneusse Hautcharage in the Cup Winners Cup 71-72 (8-0 and 13-0) and Feyenoord vs US Rumelange (9-0 and 12-0) in the UEFA cup 72-73. The record quoted is for the European Cup/Champions League only.
I do not wish to spend too much time looking for supporting references but the Wikipedia page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_F.C._in_European_football states this and the results (for Chelsea) can be found in their online match database at: http://www.chelseafc.com/the-club/history/style/match-database.html. My father also went to the home leg!
The only reference I will state (albeit without further references in that article) is [1]
- We can't use Chelsea's source because it's a primary source. ESPN source: "Chelsea's standalone record of handing Jeunesse Hautcharage the largest ever aggregate defeat in UEFA competition did not last long as Feyenoord Rotterdam achieved the same aggregate score against US Rumelange: winning the first leg 9-0 and second 12-0 in the 1972-73 UEFA Cup." SLBedit (talk) 15:06, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- I have renamed the header to "Highest goal margin (aggregate) in European Cup". SLBedit (talk) 15:13, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Longest unbeaten run across all competitions
[edit]A user has twice re-added Rijeka to the list, which is not supported by the source. These stats should be directly verifiable by a reliable source, not requiring work to get the figure. I see nothing wrong in using an old source as long as the section makes it clear it is as of x date. Can you indicate your thoughts/edit as required as I don’t want to change it again and get in edit war. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 21:23, 21 January 2020 (UTC) @SLBedit: @GiantSnowman:

Clarification of which competitions are considered in the records/stats
[edit]Since the lead text is vaguely formulated, I would suggest formulating it as follows:
This article is about major club records and statistics across all professional club competitions for european association football clubs
instead of This article details men's professional association football club records and statistics (individual and collective) in Europe.
Referring to professional competitions, it is clear to which competitions the records and statistics refer. Otherwise it would have to be stated that friendlies, exhibition tournaments or pre-season tournaments are also included in the statistics and records, which would increase e.g. the number of most goals scored by Messi in the 2011/12 season by 2 goals in Barca friendlies to 75.
At C.Ronaldo they would even increase by 6 goals in the 2013/14 season, adding 3 goals in Real Madrid friendlies and 3 goals in the ICC (Int. Champions Cup).
Sources such as UEFA and IFFHS exclude this type of tournament from their statistics. Also, most media outlets and sports newspapers, when listing records and statistics such as "most goals in a season", disregard them.
For example, when citing Gerd Müller's total goals scored in all European competitions, the German media do not count the 5 UI Cup goals (rightly so, in my opinion).
This would increase them from 68 goals (34x European Cup, 4x UEFA Cup, 20x Cup Winners Cup, 7x Fairs Cup, 3x UEFA Super Cup) to 73 goals. However the 7 goals in the Fairs Cup are counted as goals in European competitions by the media outlets, even if it's not a UEFA competition.
--->
For this reason I think it's right to reformulate the lead text in this way and that's why I also explicitly mentioned the subcontinental competitions (Mitropa Cup, Latin Cup, Balkans Cup, Royal League, Baltic League) because, unlike the exhibition tournaments, they really represent serious competition for the teams involved and were not used for training purposes or presentation.If there are other opinions and everything should be included, I think that these should be then explicitly mentioned, otherwise there is a lot of ambiguity about what is taken into account in the records and statistics listed.Miria~01 (talk) 10:54, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- They aren't major competitions organized by UEFA. SLBedit (talk) 21:12, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
Shortening of the section title (Most goals in a season in all club competitions )
[edit]Most goals in a season in all club competitions (since the modern offside rule was introduced in 1925)
seems to me to be too long as a section title and, if there were no objections, I would instead suggest adding the additional information about the offside rule as article text directly after the section title:
Most goals in a season in all club competitions
Only the period starting from the implementation of the modern offside rule in 1925 is considered for this list. Under the revised offside rule introduced in 1925, a player would be deemed offside unless there were two opposing players (including the goalkeeper) positioned ahead of them. |
Miria~01 (talk) 15:21, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- The section title is way too long, indeed. SLBedit (talk) 17:01, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
Lead section - rewriting
[edit]An attempt to rewrite the lead section to also remove the template with the warning in the article:
This article details the historical men's professional association football club records and statistics (individual and collective) in Europe.
The records and stats look across all European clubs competing in the highest divisions and levels of European professional football, allowing for cross-competition comparison. Therefore, the coverage only considers for the domestic competitions the top-division of the national league and its cups (national cup, league cup, super cup); for the continental competitions all UEFA club competitions hosted by UEFA including —although not organised by UEFA— the Fairs Cup as the the predecessor to the UEFA Cup; and additionally on an intercontinental scale both the FIFA Club World Cup and its defunct predecessor the Intercontinental Cup, which was endorsed by UEFA (Europe) and CONMEBOL (South America). |
Miria~01 (talk) 12:06, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- Just some minor corrections: "–(spacing)although not organised by UEFA(spacing)–" (en dashes, with spacings, instead of em dashes, with no spacings); "as the
thepredecessor"; Intercontinental Cup (link fix). I have a question, though. "Hosted by UEFA" as in recognised by them, or something else? SLBedit (talk) 22:36, 25 June 2023 (UTC)- Thanks for the corrections (especially regarding the en-dash).
- yes, I meant recognized and supported regarding "hosted". But it is misleading, even actually wrong on my part on closer inspection.
- --> alternatives:
- a) " .... for the continental competitions all UEFA club competitions recognized and supported by UEFA including – although not organized and recognized by UEFA – the Fairs Cup as the ..."
- Since there is some redundancy in this phrase, that might sound better.
- b) " .... for the continental competitions all UEFA club competitions and – although not organized and recognized by UEFA – the Fairs Cup as the ..." Miria~01 (talk) 00:57, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- I would choose the latter (b), as it is less wordy, but would rewrite it like this: "although recognized but not organized by UEFA". "Not" before "recognized" (although separated by "and") is a bit confusing, at least to me. SLBedit (talk) 16:52, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've added the suggestions and now rewrote the lead section. However, I can't say whether the template can be removed now or only after some time after the assessment of others. Miria~01 (talk) 19:31, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- You surely can remove it, as there's nothing wrong with the lead now. WP:BOLD (I think the template focus more on layout than anything else.) Thank you for improving the article, it's all I can say. SLBedit (talk) 21:31, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]@Mishary94: Do you enjoy ignoring Wikipedia guidelines? If you have a source for the information you are adding, you should be adding it. I don't have to add sources for you. About the display order of records, we should follow the UEFA source. Why do you insist reverting my access-date change and re-adding <br> to the lead, when you can simply add a space? I feel that you are editing in bad faith. SLBedit (talk) 02:33, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- @SLBedit: I hope you calm down and do not accuse me of bad faith. As for the source, I added the source even though I mentioned to you that it was already in the article, where you removed Porto's record of unbeaten between 2020 and 2022. As for the order, the usual order in Wikipedia, especially in records and statistics, is according to seniority. As for the <br>, I removed it after I retrieved your edit, please check through the page history, thank you. --Mishary94 (talk) 10:26, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
Jardel 1999-2000
[edit]@Mishary94 The blog[1] as a source does not seem to be entirely credible, as I believe the information is incorrect. Other sources give 37 league goals for Jardel in the 1999-2000 season at Porto and not 38 goals. Overall (in all competitions in the 1999-2000 season) there would be 55 goals and not 56.

- I'm also rather skeptical here because the your source is no longer available and doesn't have any game reports. Furthermore, your second added reference from wordfootball.net [5] with 37 goals, would then be contradictory and would therefore have to be removed. In addition to wordlfootball.net [6], in my opinion, these sources, listing 37 goals in the league, are more reliable than the archived one:
Record (Portuguese newspaper) [7][8], RSSSF [9], footballdatabase.eu [10] and Besoccer [11]
Apparently it's about one game where this discrepancy comes from in different sources:

The number of goals scored by the Brazilian in the Portuguese championship is not unanimous (148 for Record). All because of the second from FC Porto-Sp. Braga (3-0), played on February 5, 2000, and which our newspaper attributed to Chainho, as did “France Football” and Eurosport.
After Chainho headed the ball to the goal, Jardel claimed that he was last on the ball and changed the direction, what Chainho not disputes. Nevertheless, the official match report by the fourth referee and the League delegate lists Chihnio as the goalscorer.... Days later it was made public that the fourth referee and the League delegate indicated in their respective reports that it was the midfielder who scored.
- --> The conclusion from this is, that we should follow the sources as it is e.g. according to worldfootball.net and state 37 goals for Jardel in the season 1999-2000.
- see also discussion in WikiProject Football#Jardel (1999-2000 season) and WP:WPFLINKSNO (in this case sources which should not be used : zerozero and FootballDatabase.eu) Miria~01 (talk) 16:07, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
Mitropa Cup
[edit]Is the Mitropa Cup included in the player's official goals in the table? --Mishary94 (talk) 13:06, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- For cross-competition comparison at the continental competitions, as mentioned in the lead section, only UEFA competitions (incl. Fairs Cup) are taken into account. Therefore, the regional and subcontinental competitions should not be included in this list.
- Btw. the question probably refers to the recently added Bican. Here I would not entirely trust the sources provided by soccerzz (since unfortunately there are many errors in them). Goals are given for the Mitropa Cup, at a time when this competition did not even take place.
-
- Bican 1941/42 - soccerzz --> 8 goals in Mitropa Cup ??
- Bican 1943/44 - soccerzz --> 16 goals in Mitropa Cup ??
- WP:WPFLINKSNO for soccerzz: Should not be used as this website is user-generated.
- It would always be best to provide additional sources that confirm the number of goals there.
- Here is a source from RSSSF - European Topscorers by Season that would at least confirm the league goals for Bican, but unfortunately not for other domestic competitions, such as the national cup. Miria~01 (talk) 14:43, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- I will look for more sources that confirm the number of goals. --Mishary94 (talk) 22:29, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
- The mistake at soccerzz is the attribution of the goals from the regional cup (Středočeský Pohár) in the Central Bohemian Region to the Mitropa Cup, which did not take place at that time. Therefore these refs were removed and replaced with this credible source ARFHS - Bican. Nevertheless, it is a regional cup and the number of goals is not counted towards the total in the individual records of the table. Yet, the goals of Bican in this competition are mentioned in a note. Miria~01 (talk) 15:22, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

- I have restored my contirbutions. But when it comes to questions like such issue with the font-size, only change what is being objected.
- @SL Bedit -> the Old revision of Main Page at 20:04, 13 May 2024 with your edits regarding the removal of font-size attributes.
- @Mishary94 -> current Old revision of Main Page at 00:50, 14 May 2024 with font-size attributes.
- FYI: The dispute is only limited to the Individual records section, so I ask you to limit reverts to that section only. Miria~01 (talk) 23:05, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Celtic and Belfast Celtic
[edit]After researching Celtic's winning streak from 1965-66 to 1966-67, which recently added to the list, I found that it included two Glasgow Cup matches, and the same for Belfast Celtic, I found that the streak contained 3 Gold Cup matches and 8 City Cup matches. These tournaments may be regional or unofficial. To be honest, I don't know, but there must be a fixed standard for competitions, because the abundance of local cups casts doubt on the record and streaks. --Mishary94 (talk) 02:27, 19 May 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see any discrepancy. The Gold Cup and the City Cup (e.g. 1947–48 City Cup) are not regional competitions, but cup competitions for the whole of Northern Ireland, which can also be classified as league cups, as IFFHS does.[12]. The Glasgow Cup, on the other hand, is clearly regional only for the clubs from Glasgow. In addition, the organizing body is also crucial in cup competitions to distinguish between a regional and national cup competition.
- Gold Cup and City Cup: Organising body for both = Irish Football Association
- Scottish Cup: Organising body = Scottish Football Association
- Glasgow Cup: Organising body = Glasgow Football Association
