COI

[edit]

I would encourage any editor with a close connection to FilKONtario to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest to avoid appearances of bias when editing this article. It's one of the most important guidelines we have as an encyclopedia. - Dravecky (talk) 19:21, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have read the guidelines, and I'm sure that I'm in pretty good shape on them myself. I can't speak for everyone else though, and I'm not on Wikipedia everyday, as I'm involved in several large projects right now. That said, send an email to wborean at gmail dot com if there are any problems that you see, and I will respond. I do check email religiously. Make sure that Wikipedia is in the subject line. I would also like to point out since Dravecky and I are having a disagreement about another page, and I quite willingly admitted who I was, and what I've done, that if Dravecky had actually taken the time to check the editing of the page, he/she/it would have noticed that I've contributed very little to the page. Oh, I did seed it, but after that I've been mostly concerned with minor details like templates and grammar. In other words, unlike certain other people I could name, I do adopt the neutral POV. Given the nature of the topic, and the size of the filk community, it would be difficult to find someone who could write knowledgeably about this topic who didn't have a connection to FilKONtario. If, however, anyone feels that any part of the entry is biased or inaccurate, then we could look at that. HScrimgeour (talk) 21:45, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the COI template which I just noticed had been added. I no longer have nothing to do with the convention, and often don't even attend. From that point of view I should write anything about Torcon, Ad Astra, Polaris (Toronto Trek), or Creation since at one time or another I've worked on all of them, even though I don't any more, and I suspect that I don't even know who is currently running any of them, though I knew most of the founders.
As far as COI issues are concerned, as long as you park your ego at the door when editing, and write a balanced article from a third person viewpoint, you are fine. Do read the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest page. If you can't follow it, pass the information you have to another person who doesn't have the emotional connection that you have.
