Deletion nomination?
[edit]This article was nominated for deletion today by another editor. Following are my comments: The article, Flavia C. Gernatt includes relevant sources that are according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, including widely reliable sources such as The Buffalo News, a nationally-recognized newspaper, and the widely-dispersed journal, Pit & Quarry. The article should remain as an individual article, and not merged or deleted. This article meets relevant guidelines and policies to be an independent Wikipedia article. As per watchlist records: "5 July 2014 "(diff | hist) . . Flavia C. Gernatt; 00:04 . . (-4) . . Carriearchdale (talk | contribs) (Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed. ~ Undid revision 615634138 by Daniellagreen (talk))" ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 00:10, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I simply added hyperlinks to the article so that another article is not orphaned. Those were removed. What does "blanked" mean, anyway. I don't understand the issues. Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 00:33, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Whatever you were or were not trying to do while editing the article, one of the outcomes of your editing was the removal of the articles for deletion information banner which explicitly states, "(Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed." ciao!!! Carriearchdale (talk) 00:43, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I only added hyperlinks and did not delete anything; I don't know what you're talking about. Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 00:49, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Carriearchdale: As I mentioned on you talkpage, I think that you made a good-faith mistake. No tag was removed in the edit: [1] We all need to stay calm. Piguy101 (talk) 01:18, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- And my request for comment from Carriearchdale was archived. [2] I am not sure what to think now... Piguy101 (talk) 01:37, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Please see my follow-up on my talk page. Thanks, Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 03:22, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Suggestions from Piguy101
[edit]Per the Manual of Style/Lead section, references should be added to the lead section, even if the same fact is referenced in the body later. Ideally, these references can be the same ones used later in the article. Piguy101 (talk) 03:38, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Only if the material is contentious or can be "challenged". It is not necessary to cite in the lead unless the information is novel and not mentioned elsewhere in the article. Froggerlaura ribbit 03:45, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Good catch. I am removing the comment. Piguy101 (talk) 04:10, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

- The sections Background and early life and Personal life should be combined. They are too small currently to merit separate sections when they cover similar information. Piguy101 (talk) 03:42, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Per WP:ALSO: "the 'See also' section should not repeat links that appear in the article's body or its navigation boxes." Ergo, the section should be removed entirely or downsized. Piguy101 (talk) 03:46, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks to you both for the suggestions. I will make the suggested changes, :-) Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 03:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- A bigger problem is the overabundance of sources in the article, such as the six references for the four-word phrase "Gernatt was Sir Taurus'". WP:CITEKILL provides some good advice. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 03:50, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks to you both for the suggestions. I will make the suggested changes, :-) Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 03:47, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Per WP:OVERLINK, "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article, but if helpful for readers, links may be repeated in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead." Thus, such links such as Daniel R. Gernatt, Jr. and other duplicates should be removed, so it only links once. Piguy101 (talk) 03:51, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- "Gernatt died in 1995 following a six-month illness." What is the illness? It may help to add the specific disease, if known. Piguy101 (talk) 03:58, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Two of the images appear to be general images of animals. Are there images directly related to Flavia C. Gernatt, such as a photo of herself or her animals? Note: I see that you have requested an image earlier on this page. Piguy101 (talk) 04:01, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- "In 1987-1988, Gernatt and her husband established..." What does the range of years mean? Clarification is needed. Adding tag. Piguy101 (talk) 04:06, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
Done I've done a great amount of editing, and have implemented all suggestions (except for her illness, the newspaper states "six-month illness" and does not specify what it was). Thanks very much for all of the suggestions. That should improve it some, Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 04:26, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- I know it was unsolicited, but I think that you may have overlooked the WP:CITEKILL suggestion above. It's helpful to remove excessive references, particularly during a deletion discussion, because it helps people tease out which refs establish the subject's notability. For example, any ref after the fragment "Gernatt was Sir Taurus'" should mention Gernatt and Sir Taurus. Of the six refs there, I can access three and none of those actually mention Mrs. Gernatt. Stuff like that may affect people's perceptions about the quality of the sourcing and even about Gernatt's notability. Good luck to you. EricEnfermero HOWDY! 04:59, 5 July 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, that's helpful to know. I did delete a considerable amount of content and 11 references from the article. I'll do some more searching, Daniellagreen (talk) (cont) 15:18, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

comment User:Daniellagreen, please do govern yourself accordingly!!! "To govern one's self is to control one's self, or monitor one's self. Therefore govern yourself accordingly means act as you see fit. However, this also implies that you are totally responsible for anything that occurs and anything that you do." [1] ciao!!!
