Pivot TV text[edit]

The bit about Pivot TV just (to me) jars in it's current format, which is why I removed it. As written it comes across as irrelevant. If it's moved to a separate chunk of text does anyone have a problem? Jtowler (talk) 08:41, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

County of Origin[edit]

There seems to be some confusion about which country the series originates in. The Wikipedia article says that it is a Sky Atlantic production, but the Variety site it links to say that it's a Pivot TV production, and a Sky Atlantic co-production.

Location[edit]

The statement, that the location of Fortitude "is unspecified, though it resembles...Svalbard", was changed to "an unspecified part of Norway". I've changed it back, as this is merely an assumption; no-one in the programme, or on the series website, has said it is set in Norway. In fact they have been at pains to generalize the location, referring to it as an international community, with inhabitants from all over (presumably because of the environmental message being applicable to everyone, not just one country). It must be in Norway. The police is Norwegian - having the Norwegian coat of arms on their ushankas, driving Norwegian police cars, the governor derives her power from Oslo, etc. All those guns? That's the law on Svalbard, you have to carry it outside built-up areas. Never mind the cast - the Icelandic police officer, the Danish governor, and so on, that can with a bit of artistic licence easily be accommodated under the Svalbard Treaty. 2.108.238.171 (talk) 00:45, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The trouble is, as this is Wikipedia there's no “must be” about it. As an encyclopaedia which anyone can edit, all article statements must be verifiable (ie backed when challenged by a reliable source): So, do you have a reliable source to back your statement that this story is located in Norway? Otherwise it is just an assumption you've made, which has no place here. Granted it is an assumption the producers probably intended you to make, and if this was a Norwegian production you'd probably be entitled to make it; but it isn't, so (here at least) you aren't. Fair enough, if the producer wants to say flat out the action is located in Svalbard (after taking some pains to anonymize the setting) we can go with that. His comment is on the official website now anyway. The Independent ref is good, but there's always the danger of journalists checking their facts on WP before going to print (which can get us in a mess) Anyway, thank you for your responses: Swanny18 (talk) 18:59, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Independent article is based on an interview with the show's writer. It's a reliable source unless you have a reason to impeach it. Anyway, Googling "Fortitude Svalbard" gets 30,000 hits now, including many other respectable journals.     • For the same reason fictions that feature the character Robin Hood speak modern English, when he would have spoken the English in Canterbury Tales. In case you are unfamiliar with it, the English of that period predates such profound changes in grammar and pronunciation that it is essentially incomprehensible. First series ?[edit]

I follow this series with interest, will it really not end after episode 12 ? I mean UK-series like this one usually do end. It's different with series were each episode has an end. Like Morse, Midsummer Murders etc. Anyone who are certain we won't reach the end at episode 12 ? An interview with Danish actress Sofie Gråbøl (the female Mayor) gave me that impression. Tomorrow (18.April 2015) episode 10 will be aired on Danish TV2. Answers would be much appriciatedBoeing720 (talk) 00:39, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mammoths[edit]

The summary of the plot for the first episode refers to the discovery of the carcass of an "extinct mammoth". As Mammoths left the building some 4,500 years ago, I think it rather likely that any discovery of a Mammoth Carcass by a person evidently from a 21st century background would, outside Crichtonesque fiction, by necessity be extinct. However, I do realise that there are ongoing efforts to re create the Mammoth using the DNA of found specimens grown in the wombs of unsuspecting pachyderms. My suggestions to the team are that the "extinct" adjective should be removed and the plot summary should simply refer to the "carcass of a Mammoth" and that on the day the experiments with Mammoth DNA are successful the line be changed to the "discovery of a formerly extinct Mammoth". I have volunteered for the role of changing this line when the happy news is announced. Should I die before that happens, my solicitor has instructions that the necessary corrections to the paragraph regarding the plot summary of episode one of this television series shall be carried out by the eldest of my children and that they shall in turn pass the responsibility down to theirs. It occurs to me that Wikipedia is possibly rife with references to Mammoth from a generally "extinct" POV and wonder how many other editors are prepared to foster these resposnibilities which are a charge to us all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.159.1.141 (talk) 23:57, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
