Hello and thanks for pointing that out. WP:BEBOLD! :) -- Bgpaulus (talk) 23:55, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia reference needed?

[edit]

The last item in the popular culture section currently reads "In Barker's home town of Oxford, a Wetherspoons pub on George Street, often used by Wikimedia for Oxford meetups, is named after the sketch.". I'm not certain the "often used by Wikimedia for Oxford meetups" clause is really appropriate here? I haven't looked, but I'd be surprised if there was an independent source for it? Inspiration?

[edit]

According to It's Goodnight from Him, "a couple who ran a hardware shop in Hayes, not far from Ronnie's home in Pinner, wrote in and mentioned funny things that happened in their shop." This inspired Barker to write the sketch. I have edited the sentence in the first section to locate the "inspiration for the sketch" in accordance with the cited text.

I don't know where the idea that Harrington's shop in Broadstairs inspired the sketch comes from. It's quite possible that the look of the shop was inspired by Harringtons, while the incident was inspired by the Hayes shop, but we don't cite a source that says so. For now I've left the picture of Harringtons in place, but added a cn tag. --Chuntuk (talk) 07:26, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ADDED: I've done some more digging through the history, and it seems that we were correctly locating the shop in Hayes until this edit from an IP changed it to Broadstairs in 2015: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Four_Candles&diff=prev&oldid=671575541 . Acabashi took and added the photo later, no doubt acting in good faith on the basis of the text then in our article.

Since this now appears to be vandalism instead of unsourced content, I'm removing the photo of Harrington's shop. Chuntuk (talk) 07:54, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ADDED AGAIN: OK, last post here as I go and do something more useful. I've found a few (rather poor) sources to support the Broadstairs claim, so I've reinstated the picture and amended the text to include both shops.

Now, it's goodnight from me... Chuntuk (talk) 08:17, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
