Franco-American (disambiguation) → Franco-American – Franco-American is a redirect to French Americans, and that does seem to be the topic that most pages linking there right now intend. At least some some of those pages seem to intend something else, however, such as Talk:SpaghettiOs (Franco-American (brand)) or Flame of Liberty (Franco-American relations?). Since these are obviously errors, it is also possible that more similar errors existed but were corrected in the past. I suspect that there is actually no primary topic for this word. For example, Wiktionary:Franco-American lists the people as its second sense; the first sense is "involving both France, and the United States or Canada". American Heritage Dictionary has essentially the same senses, but with the order swapped so that French Americans is first. The Oxford English Dictionary has Franco- "‘regarding France, the French, or French-speakers’, as Franco-American, Franco-Canadian," etc., which would include people or countries, inter alia. Therefore, it seems to me that the disambiguation page should be at the bare title, as WP:Disambiguation recommends for cases with no clear primary topic. Cnilep (talk) 03:56, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Current primary topic is fine. 162.208.168.92 (talk) 04:57, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Support per nom. The brand is the only article with the precise title and is probably the primary topic, but at the least the term is ambiguous. It's more often used as an adjective than as a noun describing French Americans. - Station1 (talk) 05:35, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Support. Web searches don't suggest a clear primary topic. French Americans has five times more page views than Franco-American (brand) but only 1% of them are via this redirect. Let's admit that we don't know what the reader was seeking and offer them the choice. Certes (talk) 13:40, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
- Support. The current redirect assumes that it's a noun phrase, but it's far more commonly an adjectival one as in for example Franco-American relations (yes I know that's a redirect, look at the article for its meanings). So if there is a primary topic it's not the people. Far safest to put the DAB at the base name as proposed, which should prevent further mislinkings and will at least reduce their number. I will help to correct the existing ones and hope others will too; Guidelines are that the closer should do them all but that is ridiculous IMO, we are a collaboration. The target page history (see here) shows a great deal of activity, hopefully this RM will give some stability. Andrewa (talk) 07:12, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
