Books

In addition to manga, aren't there some books as well?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 23:11, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

All manga and anime derivations are based upon the series of light novels written by Shoji Gatou. this fact is reflected in the main article.

Arm Slave listing

[edit]

Perhaps the Arm Slave descriptions (please, someone add pictures) and the Lambda Driver article could be combined, like the Cosmic Era technology page for Gundam SEED Destiny. --Ren zealot —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ren zealot (talkcontribs) Revision as of 20:14, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a major revision of the Lambda Driver article done by myself.I have plans to better organize the information.
  • A page entitled Black_Technology has been created to collect the fictional technologies featured within Full Metal Panic. Arm Slaves will have a technical discussion within the scope of Black Technology.
  • The Lambda Driver article is to remain independent, as it contains a fair amount of information making combining it unwieldy. A short description is currently within the greater Black_Technology article, linking to the more in-depth Lambda_Driver Article.
  • The Arm Slave Descriptions under "Arm Slaves equipped with the LD" is to be combined with the Arm_Slave article. Possible segregation of individual Arm Slaves.
  • the Arm Slave section needs rewriting and additional information.

The Black Technology page is taking shape, but needs editing and organizaion.

Arm Slave Has been rewritten.
  • Individual Arm Slave articles need to be written.
  • More information and better organization needed.
New TDD-1 article. (needs editing and proof reading)

Response teams Article has been rewritten. I believe it should be integrated with a Mithril (organization) article, as much of the potential information will overlap. Akatombo 03:53, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do my share of it once I have some time. Do we add photos of them? 70.68.46.180 20:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A rewrite is currently in process. The entire Arm Slave Article will be revised and edited to better fit with the new Black Technology and Lambda Driver Articles.

Adding various MITHRIL personnel?

Overall editing Worklog

[edit]

Main Article NEEDS a thorough rewrite and editing. It is a massive kludge which is difficult to read, and contains information which is superfluous, personal opinion, or replicated elsewhere. Akatombo 02:05, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite finally in progress. The existing synopsis is going to be largely removed. All published novels and their respective information will be added into the overview table (possibly moved to a different section) and the infobox and its terribly outdated information will be deletd. The short story collections, the 3 different manga series, and the anime adaptations will be placed in a similar presentation for cohesion and clarity of presentation.
The trivia section is to be moved to their specific locations. Example is the transliteration errata, which will be merged with the Mithril (full metal panic) article describing the SRT and PRT units directly. The OST tracklistings are also unwieldy within this article, so a related article may be created later.
Akatombo 13:10, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Episode listing and CD information has been moved to a related page, List of Full Metal Panic Media and appropriately expanded and organized. The media page will eventually contain more information from the other series, short stories, and manga appearances. The Synopsis is next up to be rewritten, to excise the redundant and needless spoiler content. Stronger linking to the list of full metal panic characters page is needed.
Akatombo 23:03, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh. Rewrite has been finished. The format and content has changed significantly, but I think I'm happy with it. now for the editing and fine tuning. You have no idea how annoyed I was with the B rating. Lets see if we improve any.
Akatombo 01:27, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why were you annoyed with the B-class rating? That's the highest rating you can get without the peer review. If you think it deserves a Good Article assessment or higher (it has to be GA first though) then nominate it for a peer review. You can also try this reassessment thing, though I don't know how much attention it would get that way. I assessed it as B because it was basically the highest that you can go without peer review... but by all means if you think it deserves a GA rating, than nominate it! --Miss Ethereal 14:13, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The article, as I first mentioned was a kludge of terrible scale. It did not pass my rather low personal standards. Then, its rated B (which as you say, is the highest without peer review) without even satisfying me. Its not even close to GA standards, as few anime related articles are. I was just annoyed that people might think the article in the form it was, could think it had passed some standard of wiki. It was just that poor.
As far as nominating it goes, it seems a little presumptuous of me to nominate it myself. I'll have someone else do the honors. At the same time, there are major issues preventing its status as GA. this would be the images used within the document, which are definately not public domain. previous image removals only resulted in replacement with other images of dubious source. This is a anime wiki-wide problem, and isn't something I can solve. (or willing to try)

proposing a separate article for Full Metal Panic Publications. Akatombo 13:18, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In terms of what? A section devoted to the manga and novels? --Miss Ethereal 14:44, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A separate article has been created to collect episode listings, CD track listings, Novels, Manga, stories uncollected into published volumes. List of Full Metal Panic Media. The episode listing and CD track listings were cluttering, incomplete, and (I think) better placed in its own article. so I have. Akatombo 23:40, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The media list page is shaping up, with novels, anime and soundtrack information complete. Names of MITHRIL personnel (Officers, employees, etc.)

[edit]

Think we should put them in the Mithril section too? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.46.180 (talk) 07:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There already is a list of PRT and SRT personnell. Additional characters such as lord Mallory, one of the founders of Mithril, and General Voda (Boda?) among others could be inserted into the Mithril description. The various character discriptions are a mess, being duplicated over the multiple specific series pages. I think a general description relevant to the article at hand should be inserted into the Mithril page (such as Lord Mallory as the founder) but the specific details unrelated should be kept in the character list page, or their individual article. (like their hair color, likes and dislikes, etcetera)Akatombo 08:03, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help

[edit]

I don't seem to be able to make the relevant sub-section linking to the List of Full Metal Panic Media work properly. If someone would help me fix this, I'd very much appreciate it. No Resemblance To Real Persons

At the end of each episode there is a disclaimer saying there is no similarity to real persons or groups, like the one at the end of most films. This isn't in most anime, does anyone know why they had/decided to put it in FMP? --Aceizace 17:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be a good idea to create pages for the light novel series, as it would be helpful for people to understand the differences to the TV series and added information etc. This could be done arc wise to make it more simple I guess. 81.132.108.44 20:44, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible for someone more familiar with the series and the episode in question to re-write the cultural references for this episode? The first reference seems longer than warranted and gets a little convoluted as it draws in SRW. There are also two entries in this list for the same episode. Fair use rationale for Image:FMP-DVD.jpg

[edit]

Image:FMP-DVD.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Merging the series

[edit]

The two series are not radically different from the first one other than overall tone, so they should be merged (or just redirected if there is nothing relevant) to follow the anime and manga MOS. TTN (talk) 18:44, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aw, but I'll lose this as an example for a series with split pages for different seasons! :P I agree. This page really has nothing much but two additional minor characters, which can be merged with List of Full Metal Panic! characters quite easily, and the rest can be merged with Full Metal Panic!. -- Highwind888, the Fuko Master (talk) 07:02, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to disagree, Fumoffu strays dramatically from the main story and is commonly considered a spin-off of the series, not a sequel. The overall tone is what changes dramatically from season to season. The first season takes place half way between school life and military life. Fumoffu is a comedic spin-off that revolves around mostly civilian life and makes fun of many of the issues not addressed as part of the regular season. The Second Raid takes a much more serious tone completely in military life. In addition, the original airing of TSR ran 3 years after the original series. While all three seasons may be viewed together to get a more complete picture, this is not a case of an anime simply continuing from one season to another. It would be like combining Samurai X into the main article of Rurouni Kenshin or Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd Gig into the main article.FantajiFan (talk) 17:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Samurai X has be merged into the main article. The character pages of Full Metal Panic is a mess. These pages need some serious reorganizing. - plau (talk) 07:07, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Samurai X was never a separate article. The redirect just lists what appears to be possible vandalism prior to the redirect. It may never have been seperate because it lacked enough notability on its own or those working on it thought article quality would not be able to get to a good level. Finally it could be just no one has actually tried to do a page on it. Bottom line, Samurai X is a poor example to use as to why Fumoffu should be merged in response to FantajiFan.じんない 06:30, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Either ways, whether we merge Fumoffu or not, we need to reorganize the all the pages regarding Full Metal Panic.

Merge This article is about Full Metal Panic! which includes the light novels and everything based off of them. This is not an article just about the first season of the FMP! Anime. If the first season does not deserve its own article then I fail to see how Fumoffu or the shorter TSR do. If the only arguments against a merge are Anime specific then maybe there should be an article dedicated to just the Anime (all three). Otherwise I can see no reason not to merge the other two in. Argel1200 (talk) 15:45, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: To counter that I could say the Fumoffu is completely different that the 1st and 3rd series as it does not deal with mecha or the military as an organization in any way. This lack of mecha and military connotation to solely focus on the high-school antics radically alters the perspective of anime in some very fundimental ways to the extent that core audiance changes occur that are unique to Fumoffu almost unheard of in any other anime series. this source confirms it is radically different and not really even beholden to anyone watching the series for much connotation. this source also mentions how the "producers tried something new" and left the military aspect out of it entirely giving the series a more cutesy outlook. Ultimately I really don't care, but of all the series, the merging of this one should not be taken as lightly as merging other seasons from other anime. It's not the same.じんない 09:29, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Point taken. However, Fumoffu is mostly derived from the comedic aspects of the Manga, which I believe derive from the Novels. I'm not convinced that being different from the other two anime series makes it any less suitable for merging - although a detailed analysis within the page is welcome. You could argue a case for having the anime pages seperate to allow for more content (such as comparison and contrast within the series), but I have issues with the Evangelion articles doing this as it is. Do with have example franchise that applys to this case (of a decent quality)?
In any event, the page requires major work whatever we do. Some merging or heavily editing this page needs to occur, so I suggest we begin deciding how to progress rather then if we should progress. We don't need to decide on what we merge right away, but theres no reason we can't prepare. I think the first thing to do is tackle improving the page as it is. That means adding a reception section, expanding the content that is already there, and most importantly, referencing what is there. With the right work, this page could easily meet B Class, and have a good shot at GA. For the record there is at least one reference book in english (I have it), so there is a fair amount of official information we can use. Dandy Sephy (talk) 15:02, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No Merge I believe that the Fumoffu article should not be merged with the main series as it may be easily proven that it radically defers from the original. OutOfTimer (talk) 12:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The original works were the light novels. Although Fumoffu is radically different from the anime, it was derived from side stories of the novels. Lalilala1357 (talk) 04:34, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Branch it into 3

[edit]

I think so too. Branch it off into three parts of the same text. It is the same anime just different seasons. Easier to get info and to keep things clear and understandable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.17.22.143 (talk) 05:51, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Break Them Up & Missing Character Profiles :(

[edit]

The original and second season are much the same (with the exception of the tone of the story), but TSR ops is not. The overall show is the same, but the plot is radically different in the third season. The original doesn't have anything to do with the division of China. Therefore, merging them all together might be problematic if you don't offer an explanation.

Also, just for kicks...where are the character profiles from Sousuke's team on the desert mission? I want to say it was Amagistan, but that can't be right. Either way, I can't find their profiles anywhere...

New double package of 1st season + Fumoffu

[edit]

ADV appears to be releasing a new hybrid of original and Fumoffu. I do not know how we should deal with this as both seasons lists are on their own separate pages. Should we just rehash for both this re-release?じんない 22:21, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the season lists are part of a media page rather then their own lists. I'll probably look at splitting the season lists out to their own article. The new ADV box should really be included with the details of the previous releases in the episode lists. For example if the lists are split to their own article(s), the box would be mentioned with the original single releases and the various other boxsets. I've got too many active articles on the go atm so I'll leave this for now. The FMP articles could certainly see some improvements, and it's hardly unsourceable. Dandy Sephy (talk) 05:12, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page Improvements

[edit]

There are some glaring issues that need resolving on this page. The two most obvious:

  • The Original work is the light novels, so the dvd cover should be replaced with the cover of the first novel.
  • No reception section. This really should have been done already. There are plenty of reliable review sources out there for this.

There are some other things, but they should be done after some merging/expansion. I believe the previously suggested merges will need to be rediscussed, theres very little need for separate articles. I say that because the information relevant is easily included here, and there is redundant information in the separate articles (for example the character sections on the Fumoffu and TSR pages are unnecessary as we have a seperate character list). The information about the two on this page needs to be expanded anyway so it's not difficult or controversial to expand their precense here with the relevant details and then redirect the extra pages here. There will be no loss of relevant information as it will be here or on the character pages, and it also improves the page quality. Dandy Sephy (talk) 05:28, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

todo list

[edit]

I've added a todo list. Feel free to add to it or remove something if you do it. The article is in need of serious work, but it should be easy to get this higher ranked with some work.じんない 07:04, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge completed

[edit]

After a new user performed a non ideal merge (pretty much just copy + paste as it was, with no attempt to organize the information or trim it to a sensible level), I have reperformed it from the previous versions, and removed huge quantities of WP:OR, and excessive plot etc. It's a very quick and dirty merge, the media section needs to be rewritten into prose, with references. This is without the stuff that previously needed doing such as plot. We have a starting point now, we just need to build on it and develop the article into something more like Full Metal Alchemist (for example) Dandy Sephy (talk) 03:39, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is why Fumoffu should not have been merged. Important information was lost about the Fumoffu only characters that should be on the page and isn't. Also I had put that one on hold for the moment given that I believe it is different enough from the same aseries as well as notable enough to warrant it's own article. The merge of Second Raid is fine.じんない 22:00, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot about that as I was focused on trimming the info down here. As for character info, the Fumoffu characters were merged by me to the seperate character list, and the TSR character info needs trimming before moving back here (but if we develop the article enough the section will be merged to plot, so it's of debatable worth. As for Fumoffu being able to stand alone , I'll leave that to you. Dandy Sephy (talk) 23:34, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In the section on Fumoffu there should be a note that it introduced characters not seen in the rest of the series.じんない 01:13, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If that was what you meant by important, I'd say it's not massively important (3 quite minor characters, let's be honest), but is probably worth including. At this stage the list of useful info to add is quite, quite long. I'll try and fill out the anime media section this weekend. Dandy Sephy (talk) 03:11, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well they were more than minor characters in Fumoffu. The entire list and breakdown is not needed, just a note that introduced those characters that were not in the rest of the series, yet played a more integral role there.じんない 14:21, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree a note about them should be there, but I really can't agree on their importance. Again, that's for the Fumoffu/character page to prove. However, if you feel you can summarise their importance in a clear accurate way that hasn't occurred to me, please do. You'll probably do a better job on that then I will. My focus when I start will be to fill out the media info with broadcast/dvd details for the anime, and details for the Manga media. I won't be Addressing the differences between each series until those are done. Dandy Sephy (talk) 15:42, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some advise

[edit]

Hey guys (and gals too)!

Need help in the Arm Slave and Mithril (Full Metal Panic!) article srecently. Took the initiative to clean them up by adding references and pictures. However, was told that the former article may have some problems, including formatting and some sections that may be in need of cleaning, not to mention with some in-universe stuff and was advised to go here for help. Probably goes with the other one too. Some help is appreciated since I'm not sure how to make the articles good for an eventual (hopefully) C-Class status. Help on how to fix them would be nice.

PS: Did some reference additions too for the Whispered and Black Technology articles. Added a picture too for the BT article. Ominae (talk) 05:41, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this anime isn't related to Full metal alchemist than there should be a disclaimer. Full metal alchemist is more popular in english, and the names are confusing. There will be a new Light Novel in June 2011 - a short story collection. For now the core story of the 'Full Length Novels' is closed but they still publish novels with side storys so its technically ongoing. The Manga 'Sigma' is ongoing but is just another adaption from the novels. There is always a chance for future Animes, but you should consider the core story done. I really want to participate and help this article to be as accurate as possible. But the system seems to be fucked. Check for yourself - my latest edit and the version currently showing. Something is terrible wrong here.

Full Metal Panic! Movie: Come Make My Day!

[edit]

I would like to create an article on the Full Metal Panic! fan film, "Come Make My Day", currently mentioned in the main FMP! article.

I'm concerned, however, that it may not meet the requirements for creating an article. Can I get some feedback on this? Would it meet the qualifications after premiering at Otakon, additional anime conventions, or competing in film festivals?

Currently, the following sources would be available: 1. the project's web site: www.fullmetalpanicthemovie.com 2. an interview posted on ASO radio 3. An announcement on Otakon's Twitter page 4. Annoucements on the project's Twitter page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kennethml224 (talkcontribs) 16:52, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
