"Murder" categories
[edit]From what I have read, the police suspect homicide, but "murder" is a tad premature in my opinion, as is placing this article in categories related to murder. Any thoughts? Sdr (talk) 22:28, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- I added the categories, and yeah, you're probably right. I've since removed them. They can always be added back later once more info comes out. Pinkadelica Say it... 00:51, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- As the charge against Katehis is now publicly stated as "second-degree murder" then murder related categories would seem appropriate.—Teahot (talk) 12:10, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Pedophile?
[edit]There has been no evidence presented that Mr Weber advertised for a "pedophilia" encounter. 173.75.236.144 (talk) 03:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
It wouldn't surprise me to learn the victim knew the kid was 16 but there is evidence on gawker.com the kid had revealing online profiles saying he was 18. Maybe that's splitting hairs in some peoples minds but I haven't seen any media reports on an email exchange that clearly represented the kids age as 16. Stating the victim was seeking a pedohilia encounter is not NPOV without this. I don't think anyone believes a 16 year old boy raping a woman makes her a pedophile. Without evidence he knew the kid was under 18 it is inappropriate to assume this. Skywayman (talk) 18:41, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Sex crimes
[edit]What is the proper categorization and weight for George Weber's use of a child prostitute for rough sex? I wikilinked some words and added a category for Child sexual abuse. TharsHammar (talk) 03:22, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- Any claims that Weber was using a "child prostitute" or was committing "child sexual abuse" are sensationalist. His murderer was 16 and was pretending to be 18. See Ages_of_consent_in_North_America#New_York for details but in New York, sex with a 16 year old would be considered a misdemeanor. You will note that the press have referred to John Katehis as a "teenager" but absolutely no publication is referring to him as a "child" (for example the article "No Bail for Suspect Held In Killing of Newsman" by The New York Times, March 26, 2009).—Ashleyvh (talk) 11:26, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Collecting unreferenced press articles as external links
[edit]Based on the guidance of WP:NOTNEWS, pasting interesting example press articles in an external links section is not acceptable and for this article are likely to go rapidly out of date. Such links are better placed as source material against the text (assuming they are germane) and will then show up in the References section. Alternatively if you spot a great source article you could include it as a source or paste it here and recommend it for inclusion to substantiate the article.
Consequently I have removed current press article links but preserved them below for potential future use by other editors:
- Press articles
- ABC News Radio Anchorman Found Dead
- "Craigslist Teen Arrested in Reporter's Murder", Associated Press via Yahoo News (March 25, 2009)

Using Weber's blog as a source
[edit]I have included quotes from Weber's blog and personal page in support of information about himself and so these edits meet the requirements of WP:SELFPUB as an exception to WP:SPS. The detailed notes of WP:BLOGS are helpful in this regard to check what is suitable as a source.—Teahot (talk) 22:23, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Also requested his blog gets archived and it should eventually appear here, at which point it can get added to External links:
- georgeweberthenewsguy.blogspot.com at the Wayback Machine (archive index)
