Rate of Fire[edit]

Article Scope[edit]

Dubious claim[edit]

Article currently reads in part This in turn made reloading relatively slow (as compared to rifles that had magazines that could be reloaded from a single unit, such as the M1 Garand, although it was typical for its time, being identical to the reloading procedure of the 10-round Lee–Enfield).

Rubbish. The 10-round Lee–Enfield magazine was always loaded from two 5-round clips, as the article on it rightly states, and still is, and for good reason. In contact you do not want to wait until your magazine is empty before you reload.

No, the troops in an SMLE-equipped rifle squad are taught to count to five. And as soon as possible after that fifth shot, a clip goes in. Preferably before even chambering the next round.

And if you don't do that then you are putting both your life and those of the rest of the squad in needless peril. Or at least that's the way we Aussies fight. Andrewa (talk) 01:02, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
