Labeling someone with "dissociative identity disorder" without benefit of a professional diagnosis.[edit]

This article on Gladys Osborne has the following text:

"Although psychical researchers such as Oliver Lodge were convinced she had communicated with spirits, skeptical researchers were convinced that Leonard's trance control was a case of dissociative identity disorder."

I fail to understand how a BBC journalist and freelance writer like Ruth Brandon, who it would seem, had no degree in medicine, is capable of delivering a medical diagnosis of someone who engages in Mediumship. Perhaps this sentence could be revised given the bias shown? Or, at the minimum, provide evidence of what institution or person made this pronouncement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jon.f.almada (talkcontribs) 22:54, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
