Original statue in Weimar
[edit]There seems to be a similar statue in Weimar, Germany ([1]). Can someone who reads German add an English entry for it? Raichu2 (talk) 10:26, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- I added a sentence to the historical section about it. If more is desired, here is Google's translation of the other page:

Articles about other copies of the Weimar statue
[edit]Despite its title, this article is mainly about the monument in Milwaukee that is a copy of the Weimar Goethe-Schiller Denkmal. I'm interested in extending this article to the larger subject, which includes the original monument in Weimar and the four other copies that are in San Francisco, Cleveland, Syracuse, and Anting (near Shanghai). The difficulty I see is the navbox in the present article, which links to the other outdoor sculptures in Milwaukee. The navbox wouldn't be suitable for the larger article.
My suggestion is therefore to retitle this particular article to become "Goethe-Schiller Monument (Milwaukee)", and then link to it from the main article, which could take the current title. Let me know your views. Easchiff (talk) 11:13, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see interest in this subject, and I like Easchiff's suggestion to create a new article about the sculpture generally and then to rename this article as proposed. A good example of this approach working well in another case is Love (sculpture) and LOVE (Indianapolis). Please let me know how I can help. Jgmikulay (talk) 16:25, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer. I'm trying to do this little project by October, which is the centennial of the dedication in Syracuse of a fourth recasting of Rietschel's Weimar bronze. As in Milwaukee, thousands of people participated in the dedication ceremonies. A whole book was published in San Francisco on the occasion of the dedication of their copy, with original poems in German and in English. It's very hard for me to fully grasp why these projects meant so much to the German-Americans one hundred years ago. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 18:55, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for executing the move. I've changed the link in the navbox. Easchiff (talk) 21:18, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
