Worlds oldest golf course

[edit]

I found this source stating that Musselburgh golf course has been recognised by the Guinness book of records as the worlds oldest golf course. As I have heard different claims for this honour (St Andrews for example) I would like other opinions on whether it should be included here. Coll Mac (talk) 10:18, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, it shouldn't, at least not by itself. There is evidence that golf was played at Carnoustie at an earlier date (pre-1560), and St Andrews has similar claims made for it. Any discussion of the oldest golf course should include these three at least. Catfish Jim & the soapdish 13:17, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
